If we go for a small forward, it 100% must be a different "type" to the one-paced, defense-first types we already have. We're arguably overstocked for small forwards, but they all fill the same role in the side and shouldn't all essentially be coexisting in the same 22. Someone flashy who creates goals from half chances in the pocket, don't care if they're defensively ordinary or don't have the tank to get up the wing and back. At the very least that gives us a point of difference that we can tinker with.

If it's a tall, make it a KPF with some ruck chops. No need for a KPD at the moment with JSOS reinforcing Weitering, Haynes playing some solid footy, HOF looking handy, and Dean likely to be added in 5-6 months too. Find someone with a different approach to Lemmey and Young - neither are pack crashing types, so more suited to playing a very very supporting role (third tall). Pick up one of those aggro young KPFs who like to jam the knees in.

If we're not recruiting for one of those two roles - ignore position and just take someone with good footskills, decision making and one-on-one ability. A player like that can be moulded into any number of roles if they end up being good enough.

I'd be happy with a good defensive small forward because we could really do with an upgrade on what we have. Someone with a strong body who is physical but has pace, good skills, good kick and still kicks the odd goal.

Problem with our smalls is yes they don't kick goals but they also aren't very physical and when they get it don't finish well.
Someone who uses it well, cracks in hard, tackles, has pace and uses it and can halve contests really well would be good for us.

We would love an elite small goal kicker but until we start moving the ball better they will only go to waste.

If we draft a tall forward, the conspiracy theorist in me will be in overdrive, you dont need to add a key forward if you have two big key forwards tied to long term deals and a key forward in the 2s in his 3rd season.

If we grabbed a tall forward id be convinced its because one will leave, now to me that’s still most likely Lemmey but speculation will be rife.

We should remember that our draft is most likely locked in, Dean, ISON, Gresham and Clarke, so if the club thinks Lemmey will be chopped, now is the time to replace him.

I hope we are in front of any such plans from one of our forwards.

Replacing one with Archie May wouldn't be the worst thing. Costs us nothing. Some of his vision is superb. I particularly like the ones that show the whole picture, good and bad.

Has an awful out of bounds in this vision, but is listed as a good set shot generally, so it's good to see something that isn't sugar coated.

He is a genuine ruck/forward too. Also see how he sticks up for teammates.

May and HOK are both genuine ruck/forwards. We wouldn't need to manufacture one, like we do with Young. We wouldn't need to play a pure ruck while forcing another ruck to play forward.

He's rising 21 too, and looks like a solid lad already.

Imagine, get Pick 5-8 for TDK, and for argument's sake Harry moves on. That's another top 10 pick for sure. Remember Harry is 27 and we should be getting his best right now, but we aren't.



We can rejuvenate our list very quickly. No, we won't address our pace issues for the second half of the season, but we will be back in the first round of the draft and can address it there.

I see it a little differently there’s a clear lack of potential depth off KP types at both ends on our list (excluding O’Farrell) finally…

We haven’t got a young contested marking KPF, Lemmey isn’t that type of player, with restricted draft picks this year, Walker next year and Tassie coming to the draft in 27 it may be a good opportunity to identify one while we have the option to…

We may also loose McMahon if *** decides to snatch him from our reserves list, the club/reserves need some decent talls developing for the medium/long term, hopefully good enough to cover a player at senior level if needed…
