Thats called workrate and effort. Its a foreign word to some Eagles fans who seem to think we dont have a effort problem
No thats called also being in the top 5% of all AFL players with gut running capacity.

Not many have a 2km time trial of 6.10.

And then there's the genes/pedigree.

"He finished the year with an impressive time of 6:10 for 2km (Strava tested) at the NAB AFL Draft Combine. Comes from a sporting family, with his father representing Australia in the Commonwealth Games in the 400 metres and his mother competing in the National Youth Championships in the long jump"

What a stupid take, Reid’s had two less afl preseasons and doesn’t have the make up to be an elite runner this soon (look at literally every other player like him that’s come into the system, none had tanks). Hewett has barely had a full preseason since he got here.

You think effort is the only thing keeping them from matching one of the best runners in the league?

Exactly my point though. Reid/Hewett/Hough can reach Callaghan level for sure in terms of burst speed. They need pre seasons not replacement

How about after last night when bloody Kieren Briggs had a career best game?
We all knew that Flynn would get monstered by Briggs.

Short term, I'd rather BW and JW tag team and rotate forward and ruck.
Both offer more than Flynn in either position...At least JW can hold his space too. Flynn is one of the weakest big men I have ever seen.

Why do you rate him
Shown sweet fa
Nothing to do with him
Pick 14 what a flop
Has anyone even said they rated him?

Just pointing out your unhealthy obsession.

That’s not effort though, that’s a time issue.

They're not the same though, no matter how many pre-seasons get put in.

Do Reid/Hewett/Hough have improvement left in them. Yes.

Will they be able to get to Callaghans level of elite explosive speed, top end speed and endurance. I doubt it.
They're different genetically and Finn is very rare in this regard. Judd could be a comparison and they don't come along very often.

At optimum, Reid will be more explosive through the contest than even Finn and may have a very high burst top speed. He's not genetically made up to repeat that at the same level, all game long. He does still have a lot of head room left for endurance and will need to keep working on that base. If he gets it to a good level, the rest of his power game will sky rocket too. I suppose Martin is a fair comparision.

Hewett is not dissimilar to Reid... Little bit less pure explosive power but looks to have the capability of higher endurance for continued bursts.

Hough is different to both and I think looks to be an elite endurance athlete and will have good core strength and footy IQ is growing exponentially but not that explosive power. Maybe a game style ending up like Nic Martin if we're lucky.

Nah.

You can't move the dial much on this. You can teach someone to play footy, but you can't teach them to have elite burst speed.

There is a clip this morning on Instagram with the Collingwood cheer squad behind the goals singing to TDK

“Oh when the Saints
Go marching in
…..
Oh he wants to be at St Kilda”

Not able to share Instagram posts but here is the story

Now that was funny and shows that we would be fine having a mid season trade period

Question is - can the players handle it

Go look up the term endurance.

Not sure about you but for me it's common sense that an established mid like a Callahan would have built his endurance base over some time.

No matter how hard you try and put in effort. Endurance takes time and effort over a long period to build.

Hense why first and 2nd year players struggle to run out games and stay with established mids.

so he is an athlete and a footballer - sounds ideal.

Hey Jez, you’ve joined with a fresh account two days ago and in that period you’ve posted 25 times.

24 have been about how bad Campbell Chesser is.

Figure out something else to contribute quickly. Thank you.

Preaching to the choir. Woosha is the one who said we need to hit the draft for someone with endurance as opposed to just get the current crop to have better endurance...

Was anyone able to watch this?
I watched from the start of Q2.

Duursma played defence and looked to be under utilised. You can see it's on a higher level than most of them.

Annable - you can also see he's a level above.

Lindsay was great by foot but he is pure outside. Does not like contact.

Carmichael and Onley were good.

Hibbins-Hargreaves got better as the game went on, but he's not a high possession winner and lacks consistency. He won't go top 10.

Last week I thought Flynn had turned the corner. He ran in with intent and hit the body. Best game for us. Then he comes out and serves up that insipid shit!
You build sides from the top.Your big men don’t have to be stars they just have to be hard and competitive.
Nankervis? Lycett? Vardy?
People still serve up the tripe that the game has moved to fast fast fast and there’s no room for bruisers!
I say BS! How do you think HR and Hewy would go with Nankervis by their side?
