Hopkins might be a chance.
Ware, Morrison and Olliver also for their longevity, and carrying poor teams for many years. None probably top 5 anymore, but Ware and Olliver used to have their names up high in the old version of the Whitten Stand, don't think Alby did?
Morrison an early leading goalkicker, kicked 50 in his first season as a 19yo, including the first ever double figure total in a VFL game by a Bulldog. 18 years later took the field as the oldest Bulldog to ever pull on the jumper, 2 year stint in the VFA and war service in between. If you were listing the 10 best Bulldogs from 1925 to the late 60s, it would be Hopkins, Morrison, Ware, Olliver, Sutton, Whitten, Collins, Schultz, Bisset with Donald, Jillard and a few of the 54 team fighting for 10th place.
Sadly a lot of these guys get forgotten these days. Hopkins VFL record is "only" 151 games, but he actually started in the VFA in 1923, playing in premiership teams in his first 2 seasons, as well as the Championship of Victoria game. Captain coach in 1930, tied for the Brownlow that year but missed out because the designated winner played one less game(!), second twice as well, went to Yarraville as captain coach in 1935 (when they were the "Villains" - how good is that as a nickname?!), led them to their first flag, and was runner up in the old Recorder Cup to boot.
And all this in 17 and 18 game seasons and no finals. Stacks up well against any modern great. Ware and Olliver likewise, and they like Sutton as well had their careers interrupted by military service during WW2. Given the versatility of Hopkins and Morrison, and mobility of Ware and Olliver, all 4 would fit nicely into the 2025 game... and probably suit Bevo's mantra!
Edit: oops, sorry Wally D and JJ, but I missed Harry Hickey, would take 10th place!
