How many free list spots are we going to have at the end of the year at this rate?

Outs/OOC
Allen - Brisbane (1 out)
McGovern (Replaced by McCarthy)
Sheed (Replaced by Newton OOC) - Would expect to be given a preseason.
Bazzo/Cole/Cripps - All reported to be extending one year
Champion OOC - I'd expect him to get another year
Chesser OOC - I'd like him to get another year (or two), especially considering the contracts given to cole/Cripps
Hunt/Petrucelle/Jamieson/Rawlinson/Livingstone - Heading towards being delisted (5 out)
Barnett/Johnston - Contracted for next year, not sure if club would consider paying out if we need the list spots.

I count 6 outs on that list, if you assume we keep barnett/johnston.
I don't know how Rawlinson & Livingston being on the rookie list affects our list size so I'm going to choose to ignore it and not research it.

Ins
Draft: Pick 1, 2, Hawks 1st. These might end up all we bring in draftwise with our limited list sptos
NGA: Banfield/Evans/Walley/Williams - Do we have enough spots for all 4 of these players?

Just off this do we actually have the list spots to hunt players from other clubs?
We have to be relying on being given 4 or so extra list spots at this stage by the AFL you'd think?

Has anyone here seen much of the Adelaide SANFL team?

Wondering if Billy Dowling is worth making a play for. His numbers at least look good, could be on the fringes for a while there and I kinda liked him in his draft, reminded me of Jarrod Berry

If we have limited list spot's then how do we trade anyone in? Seems to be only enough spot's for the draft.

How good is it that the worst team ever can't get rid of all the dead wood because everyone has a contract?
Because despite everything, we really started the rebuild two years ago, and have already turned over much of the deader wood.

I mean in the last 3 seasons we’ve retired:
JJK
Gaff
Shep
Sheed
Redden
Hurn
Nicnat
Boots
L Edwards

And delisted/traded
Darling
TB
J Jones
Rotham
Witherden
Burgiel
Foley
Clark
XON
SPS
Langson
Nelson
Culley

That’s a fair old list turnover, and we’ve lost quite a few first team players.

The list needs to have a certain amount on it and you can’t just generate people - they all gotta come from somewhere.

Now it’s all well and good to to delist Cole/Cripps etc - but who are you replacing them with? Sure - our youth. But then when our youth gets injured? Then we’re back to isn’t amateur top ups?

It’s also well and good to trade for new players but you so that when you still know your existing players are coming to the end of their contract - so there’s at least some certainty that if they pull out of the move, you’re not left with an empty list slot.

Relevant to us:

• Starcevich - has a 2 year offer from Brisbane but Essendon are pushing hard. Mentions we also have interest without connecting him to us with any conviction
• McVee - holding off talks with Melbourne and us other Victorian clubs chasing him. Girlfriend plays for Melbourne so apparently has little interest returning to WA
• Reeves - points out we need a ruck but no mention of any approach to him
• Ah Chee - says Adelaide have made an offer but no mention of us
• Blight - needs one game to hit a contract trigger for 2026 and days without it clubs will be interested without naming one. Seems not to know he’s from WA
• Hustwaite - might be easier for Hawthorn to let him go if they land a Harley Reid type. LOL

• Reid - says he wants to stay. Doesn’t buy that St Kilda didn’t approach him. Rivals believe he’s staying. Eagles cannot hope to win the flag and pay him $2.2 million for the next 11 years. Ralph bringing more Lols
• Ryan - interest from Saints, Blues and Bombers with West Coast open to it if we can improve our draft hand. Seeking security beyond 2026

I don’t think Ralph has much insight on our movements but reading through that it highlights why we might be signing up the likes of Cripps, Cole and Bazzo now. We aren’t an attractive destination so anyone of note is looking elsewhere whilst Ryan could be on the move

FOS, Walters, Davies are interesting rumours tied to us trading our valuable picks. Let's not give them away...unless the offers are substantially one sided.

Please 🙏 no more good guys that are so easy to trade with...bring out your dead ☠️💀
If we are looking for a trade that we might actually win for once then GC is a good place to start. With GC academy kids ranked at #1 and #4 most recently by Cal and already with picks 6, 10 and 15 there could be some interesting swaps done with them to get ahead of bids and bank points, although bid matching has been tightened a little bit.

If we gave them pick 1 for eg. Walter, Davies and Knobel then they could take Duursma and slide their other picks back to match on Uwland and Patterson. We could use pick 2 on CDT and trade our other first rounders up to grab a decent mid. Or split pick 2 and get Sharp and another mid.

I’m sure there will be plenty of mega-trade pick swaps thrown around as we get closer to the trade period.

After OA compo our first 3 picks (removing pick 1) and their first 4 picks almost balance out exactly the same.

GC picks 7, 11, 16, 29 = 4200 points

WC picks 2, 15, 20 = 4211 points

Sounds like a whole load of nothing to me.

👍

I was going to suggest him. Contracted until the end of next year however. The Adelaide board really rate him and are very disturbed at the coach’s not picking him. He has done fairly well in his games at AFL level.

Will likely get another chance starting this week with Rankine’s pending suspension (they are not a like for like, but there are other injuries/players missing).

Would we even get anything interesting in return for Liam Ryan? Like honestly? Would almost be better off to keep him if it's like a pick in the 40's

Liam Ryan + 14 to stkilda for pick 8
