Ladhams should also be a trade target for us. Currently 27, but Grundy has at least another couple years as Swans #1 ruck, by which time Ladhams is 29 & career has passed him by playing reserves. ditto Reeves, who isn't going past Meek from here.
I don't see how we can't make a compelling offer. Game time & coin will outweigh success when you are little hope of being in the team to enjoy said success
Definitely, need to see where the ruck rules go however. Think BBW can actually have a better future rucking if the rules are to change, but both of those 2 are improvements on our current situation

I would genuinely pay good money, to never have to see him in the AFL, for any side, ever again.

It is incredible that he's on a list, let alone playing each week.
I liked the one where you traded Hogan in for gold & diamonds traded him out for nothing, only for him to go on and become a Coleman medallist.
There's countless other examples of trades Freo have sh@t the bed on. Go back to your own board & have a whinge about another year wasted doing Fremantle things

I don't understand the talk Chesser is going to get traded or delisted.
I've been as pessimistic about him as the next bloke, but he's clearly shown enough the last couple weeks to give at least one more year.
If list management's mind was made up to delist then he'd not have been given a run in the senior team. So they wanted to see what he could do. Surely they couldn't have asked much more of him given the chance than what he's shown

Signing Matt Owies
Extending Kelly for 2 years
Extending Hutchinson for 4 years
Extensions for Cripps Cole and Bazzo rumoured to be incoming.

Boy oh boy wowee
It’s one thing sucking on field, but it hurts even more knowing we also suck off it. Just an incredible stale club at present with very questionable people in charge.

Fully expect us to do something stupid and desperate this off season.

I agree. I think the Blues and Dees would be sniffing around a player like Chesser. Looked really good the last few weeks in patches.

The two of us have the most plodderish list going around and anyone with speed and kicking skills would surely be of interest to us, especially an old VIC boy.

Out of curiosity, worst case scenario for you lot he asks to come home... What do you think you'd be wanting in return for him? Bit of a hard one to judge for mine as up until a month ago he seemed a likely delist option with his injury issues.
With the reports of of us getting expanded list spots we will probably be giving guys on the cusp 1 year deals .

Chesser who has had 1.5 of his 4 years ruined by injury will probably be retained .
If he was to leave i wouldn't be confident of our list management getting anymore than a pick in the late 30s early 40s

The issue is is that we can't give everyone a contract. We are terrible and need to turn the list over. Its been reported that we've already offered contracts to Cripps, Bazzo and Cole which doesnt leave a lot of players left to delist come seasons end.

He wouldn’t become a half decent ruck if the rules changed to allow only him to contest the knock. He would just jump under it as always

As long as the rules changed that hit outs to advantage count even if you keep hitting it to the opposition. If marks are paid like Auskick he would be a great player for the club.

Out Allen and likely ryan traded

Retired McGovern sheed

Delisted jamerson Petrecelle hunt

Hopefully afl allow us to put 2 NGAs straight onto an expanded cat b list

We could even have the afl allowing us to put players like cripps and cole onto expanded rookie list

In 3 x traded players
In 4 x National draft
In 2 x NGAs onto cat B rookie list

Seriously, L Reidy would be a decent cheap ruck option, better than Knobel and better than BW.
Reidy would be a good get, 25 years old so should be coming in to his prime in the next couple of years. Would leave Freo with no back-up to their $2M duo though. I wonder what they would want for a package of Erasmus, Brodie and Reidy? Would all serve a purpose for us.

Knobel is only 21 and still a bit of a beanpole so has more upside. Also plays second ruck to Moyle in the VFL so hard to judge his output. When solo ruck has done pretty well but hit outs are probably inflated being 206cm at state league level.

Ladhams should also be a trade target for us. Currently 27, but Grundy has at least another couple years as Swans #1 ruck, by which time Ladhams is 29 & career has passed him by playing reserves. ditto Reeves, who isn't going past Meek from here.

I’ve always rated Ladhams as a mobile ruck when he’s had to step up at AFL level. Again doesn’t play much ruck in the reserves with young Will Green being developed so hard to judge his form. Does okay forward for what it’s worth but clearly out of favor at the Swans given their lack of competent key forwards and him still not getting a game. At this stage in his career would surely be keen to play senior footy if we wanted him.

Sheed and McGovern have effectively been replaced on the list by McCarthy and Newton so their retirements have no bearing on the necessary list changes to made this offseason

At a minimum, we need to open up 8 list spots:

• Four new draftees - 3 top picks plus Banfield with our last pick of the draft
• Two players traded in
• Two NGA players - Evans and Williams

Arguably, we should be looking at another draftee, another player traded in and/or Walley as a third NGA which would need 3 further list openings

If the AFL give us two extra Cat B spots to prelist our NGA players that’s Evans and Williams accommodated.

Delisting Rawlinson, Jamieson, Hunt and Petruccelle plus Allen leaving us a FA gives us 5 list spots. Paying out Barnett and moving him on gives us the last list spot needed to reach the minimum required

Assuming Cripps, Cole and Bazzo do get given new contracts as reported with Chesser, Champion and Newton all being extended as well which I believe they should - it would leave Livingstone as the only uncontracted player

To bring in anyone else (another draftee, another trade and/or Walley) a combination of the following is needed:

• Trade a player(s) out - Ryan has been discussed but I also suspect a Williams (Bailey or Jack) might be traded out - especially if we bring in a ruck
• Delist Livingstone (only required if we want to add Walley)
• One of Chesser or Newton is delisted/traded which would be a mistake imo
• The AFL give us two additional list spots separate to the Cat B spots which would be ideal

Given all of the above, im okay with extending Bazzo and Cole but think if we don’t get the extra list spots extending Cripps robs us of a little bit of flexibility to either not be able bring in someone or move someone on that we’d rather keep

He won’t be good, but he probably gets his spot back from Flynn if they ban the wrestle and go back to jumping

Another top notch summary Keys and I tend to agree with it all.

Love Cripps to bits, but it is so frustrating that no one has come close to overtaking him despite the club seemingly drafting and trading for that exact outcome in mind with spuds like Langdon, Owies and hell, even that square-headed fellow during Covid: Nic Reid, along with Brockman, Long, Rawlinson ... With Champion and Newton coming along too. I've probably missed/forgotten some too. None have been high draft picks but neither were Cripps himself (Picks 41 and 44 with 46 coming back), LeCras (Pick 37), Willie Rioli (Pick 52)...

We have small forwards coming out of our arse, potentially more to come with Where's Wally, and 50 year old Jamie Cripps is still better than the lot of them put together :poo:

Well its open to wide speculation, watching the Sudnay desaste I must admit that Chesser was one of our top 5 ish players. Bazzo and Brock were actually ok to competative in a belting against a quality forward line. Plenty of hope for further development.
And just quietly, if McCarthy hits the gym we could be a very serious weapon. (He has said he must)
