Harry Scott AFL draft profile: Richmond VFL midfielder in mix to be drafted
Harry Scott’s sharp improvement and move from the wing to the midfield has propelled him forward at Richmond VFL and into the eyes of AFL recruiters.Harry Scott’s approach to his football is as simple as the way he plays it.
“I’m trying to be as consistent as possible,’’ the Richmond VFL midfielder says.
“Trying to do the same thing week in, week out, and keep building on the form I’ve been in at the moment, rather than it being a one-off sort of thing.’’
It’s working.
In his second year at Punt Rd, the 20-year-old son of former AFL Tiger Allister has ripened into a leading player — and a good chance to win the VFL’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal.
The Tigers are expected to nominate two players for the medal — Scott and sparky small forward Massimo Raso — in keeping with their standing as a hot-bed for emerging talent.
Their list of drafted players is getting long: Tom McCarthy, last year’s Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal recipient Sam Davidson, Sam Durham and Massimo D’Ambrosio are among those taken from Tigerland since the league came out of Covid in 2021.
An AFL recruiter contacted about the 191cm Scott likens him to McCarthy in that he “just keeps improving’’.
“You like seeing blokes who get better,’’ he says.
Scott has emerged as one of this year’s top VFL draft prospects.
What it is about Richmond VFL that it’s producing draft-worthy players as if by production line?
“Alex Davey is now the head of the VFL but before him Ollie Grant did a heap of working in bringing in the right sort of people for the program,’’ Scott says. “They help the players a lot.’’
