My point is comparing the lyrics of an artist with calling someone a slur to their face is enough of a stretch let alone when those lyrics were written in a different era.

It being in a song is actually far worse tbh but I wouldn’t count as a valid argument because of how far in the past it is

Putting the actual Rankine slur aside for a moment -

Anyone still surprised or shocked by anything that AFL Inc. does is simply naive.

We are watching an entertainment product operating under a corporate structure. It's not fair, or consistent, or non-hypocritical - for anyone. And their media sycophants are like this by design - "How did that info leak to a journalist?" It's like that on purpose.

I love the Crows and I enjoy watching the sport, but the league is a joke. Invest your energy in to it from a team fan perspective, but if you're looking for anything more than that you'll be disappointed.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that the AFL is a follower, not a leader.

Every decision they make is based on the optics with the community. They care first and foremost about their image and brand.

So long as the AFL themselves are seen to conduct themselves with the proper processes, they couldn't care less about what the media leaks. It's not from an AFL official so they don't concern themselves with it.

This is plainly obvious when the AFL addressed the Snoop Dogg defense first at the presser. Only concern is for the optics.

We've been done dirty with this leak and the AFL phrasing. There is no way this makes any sense on a surface level without a detailed explanation that is not going to be forthcoming. In fact it makes us look as bad as Port with the Willie Rioli racism card defense.

For all I know there is a legitimate medical reason but it's easy to see why people would interpret this to mean we played the mental health card to partially absolve him of making a homophobic comment - which is hardly a good excuse or reason

The AFL shouldn't have provided any explanation for the 4 weeks and definitely shouldn't have made it seem like we blamed it on a mental health issue

This was always going to happen as soon as the AFL explained its reason as an undisclosed health issue.
