Hes a required player until he walks out of his exit interview next week
He’s a required player until they know they will receive Pick 2 as compensation.

Pffffttt…..good supporters dont eat their own regardless of their shortcomings in my opinion. FMDT. “He may not have achieved a lot”….mate….he will play 200 games!!!! AS you have noted, you have never played a game of afl at the highest level EVER…Dan will trump you by a long way and I wont degrade you for that because you had a crack. Less than 4 % of all afl registered players achieve 200 games and he should be respected for that…not called a derogotrey name as McSpray…thats bulls**t.
In this forum I am entitled to give my opinion just as much as you are Champ. Keyboard warriors piss me off when young men like Dan play at the elite level that many never will yet those have the audacity to pay out on their shortcomings rather than be positive about their bloody awesome achievements. (Happy clap there)
Did you just call him champ? Mr Holier than thou, talking on about respect and shit posters rolls with ‘champ’. Calls players ‘Dan’ and makes out like he some sort of insider - it’s weird.

All good Legend. My bad on the post. Thank you for the bolded. My horse is a Shetland so I can slide off easier than most. ;)

I just would love supporters of clubs to be kinder to the players who contribute to giving us the enjoyment of watching our team play. Dan is a good footballer in anyones world. He should be respected for that the same as anyone who works in a different industry who reaches the highest level.
Yeah because people at the peak of any industry are never open to criticism.

How rich is it Alistair Clarkson coming out and saying clubs like North are suffering and can’t get into the AFL draft early enough because of Academies and Father / Sons. How absurd given all their high end talent and like St Kilda taking wrong players at the high end (selecting Will Phillips) and then only taking mids.
Or trading a future first round pick (that was obviously going to be a top 5 pick) for two second round picks.

The reality is that any high standard sporting athlete is not compared to the average joe, they're compared to the other high standard sporting athletes they compete against.

We've all heard (Maybe even said) phrases along the lines of "I'd have kicked that" out of frustration but that doesn't mean the person truly believes they could go out on the field and perform at an elite level.

As supporters it's only natural to compare players as well. Is it negative to say that Gallop and/or Smith are worse options than Hipwood or anyone else? No it's not but it is also inadvertently a form of putting somebody down.

I agree that people can sometimes go over the top as it's sometimes hard to seperate the person from the athlete but respectfully this is an online forum and provided no serious lines are crossed, it's naturally fair game.

I work in a field where my job is scrutinised publicly and comments are made about me by strangers on the internet, so I have some skin in the game to conversations such as these. That's just a reality I have to deal with and have come to accept, I am very much positive that AFL players are similar in that regard. They know how to avoid negative comments and if they do see them, most should have the ability to shrug it off and know that people just don't know as much as they think they do.

You dont read my post and now have closed your mind to the debate. No player should be immuned to criticism but all players should not be subjected to abuse or over the top/dis-respectful insults. There is a difference & that is the point i have been trying to make but you seem to want to argue with me rather than the subject I am talking about.
Moving on now.

What was on offer if they become Gold Coast Kangaroos was even more that our merger agreement; they were guaranteed like eight games at Marvel as the away team, meaning any Vic clubs playing them at home, including MCG tenants played their and they got their 11 home games on the Coast. It was the sweetest deal possible not to mention their colours, club song, history etc.

Like us and Swans, they’d have had the best of both worlds with two sets of supporters, guaranteed future, injection of money from the AFL, additional rights to recruit players much like the Suns got but still fought to stay in a saturated market.

Dumbest decision ever.
Maybe they had a look at how well the AFL kept their previous merger agreement commitments and decided that such guarantees were, shall we say, ephemeral...

I.e. We only get the requisite number of Melbourne games if we make the finals...

I don’t think players should be abused or insulted either. Being called McSpray is hardly, IMO, abuse or an over the top insult.

Perhaps should have gone with McStrongMarkWhoIsImportantToStructureAndAlwaysTriesHisHeartOutButHasATendencyToMissSetShotsFrom30OutDirectlyInFront ?

Hardly rolls off the tongue…
Why call him anything if its that hard for you to find something that's not uncomplementry? Just Macca or Dan would suffice

Being called it by your fans?
After the game some of our current players who run one of those little footys out to the fence for a supporter cop some serious sprays. That's not good & you sometimes wonder why a player would do it anymore if thats what they have to cop.

And they should be within their rights to tell the person to get ****ed.

There's a difference between giving someone a gently ribbing, and abuse. As I mentioned in an earlier post, other than it being a play on his name, it's no different to the discussion on Joe Daniher being 50/50 from anywhere on the ground, or saying a player couldn't hit the side of a barn.

McSpray certainly didn't enter a common vernacular to my awareness (other than probably amongst a small group of posters here around 2019/2020 from a quick search). Dan McStay absolutely went through a period when he was an unreliable shot at goal. He knew it and worked on it and improved and that was also generally acknowledged.

For the record, this post is the first time I've ever used the term, and I'm happy to withdraw my defence if it if it was ever used to directly abuse the player.

This is a straw man argument.
Nobody on this board condones abuse directed at our players.
But this is a discussion board where people discuss the performance of our team.
The team we all love
Sometimes the quality of our comments are less than perfect
But we are not talking to the players or the coaches.
We are talking to fellow supporters
Who bleed maroon blue and gold.
You, SL, are talking to supporters
People who have been loving this club for many years
Many of your comments come across as aggressive, sanctimonious and bullying.
Be better!

That is an absolute load of utter crap you have made up to suit your ‘argument’.
