I'm not sure this would be a good idea, as the Vic media is certainly after our academies.

Mentioned on another club board, but there's a genuine possibility that the top 4 be the 4 northern clubs, and the top 6 could add Freo and Adelaide.
That would mean there would not be a game in Victoria for 3 weekends in September. At least.

Here for that. If they gonna whinge anyway, might as well give em something worth whinging about.

I've come around to the idea that Fagan has just thrown a grenade via that interview so the narrative shifts away from Neale n players personal lives.

Old fox is too wily and been around for too long to be stumped by such silly narratives - so the only scenario that makes sense is this is voluntary from him to keep media chewing at something regarding Brisbane. Good on him.

The media and other clubs dined out on the go home 5 for years as an illustration of what a pathetic club we were particularly in list management and player access and retention.

Now that players want to come and we use all within the rules to access talent it's suddenly unfair. To clubs who are like we were.

Just read this article and did the quick math on the 268 AFL games he's played to date - 5 H&A games to go this season and it's probably fair to assume Brisbane will play at least 2 finals matches this season. That will take him up to 275 and obviously if he plays on next year then he has the opportunity to add an extra 23 H&A games + finals. Basically I wanted to ask if you guys think he'll reach 300 games? Would be pretty incredible for a guy that wasn't drafted until he was 22 years of age and debuted at 23. From memory, there's only been a few Queenslanders to reach 300 AFL games - Marcus Ashcroft, Jason Akermanis and Nick Rieowldt (does he count?) so Zorko would definitely be in illustrious company if he does get there.
I posed this question in the 2024 list management thread when Zorko sat 32 games shy of the 300 milestone and we obviously know now that played every game of the 2024 + 2025 seasons to make it to 300 last year and is still going. So now the question should be asked - will Zorko overtake Simon Black's all-time games record of 322 games this year? Zorko currently sits on 304 games so he will only have to play 18 of 23 H&A games to get there this year and obviously playing at least 19 games this year sets a new club record. For the record, Kevin Murray was the only Fitzroy/Bears player to hit 300 games so that's potentially in reaching distance for Zorko as well.

Probably also worth pointing out that 2nd place on the VFL/AFL games record for a Queenslander is also up for grabs with Zorko closing in on Marcus Ashcroft (318) and Jason Akermanis (325) this year. However, passing 1st placed Queenslander Nick Riewoldt (336) would require Zorko to play on in 2027. Hard to believe this kind of history is on the line for Zorko given he didn't make his AFL debut until the age of 23!

Royal Commission incoming...

Hmm weird. The stat I saw suggested Roos played the most games for Fitzroy. But yes, upon closer inspection, Kevin Murray did play over 300 VFL/AFL games for Fitzroy (333 to be exact). The only Fitzroy or Bears player to reach the 300 game milestone. Post updated with the Murray inclusion. Another record for Zorko to chase.

If ya dunno about Kevin Murray, ya dunno much about our club:huh:

I'd heard of him, just didn't know he played over 300 games and believed the source I saw about Roos playing the most games for Fitzroy. Honest mistake.

Anyway, the post really about whether Zorko will overtake Black's games record this year.

Interesting and little known fact about Bulldog Murray is that he didn’t miss a single game through injury from 1958 until his retirement at the end of the 1974 season. In that time he played about 273 games for Fitzroy, 44 for East Perth (in 1965 and 1966), 24 for Victoria and 6 for WA. A total of 347 senior games of football without a miss. And he played in a back brace for much of his career. A complete legend.

Murray also played a couple of seasons in the west for reasons I can't recall but probably financial

He also captain coached Sandringham in the VFA

AFL player pay skyrockets with average wage now over half a million
Fremantle matchwinners Andrew Brayshaw and Shai Bolton, Brisbane premiership front-liners Hugh McCluggage and Lachie Neale, Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron and Sun Ben King are also on seven-figure deals.
Is Neale still on that much this year?
Lion playmaker Zac Bailey is also considering rival offers expected to top $1.7 million, including from Adelaide and Essendon, who both have mega room in its salary cap.

King (of the St Kilda variety) possibly out for the season after more surgery. Might be playing their two ruck forwards a lot.

The new news was about the Sydney Max King. The latest news for St Kilda's one is that he had a cleanup in December and he should be training about now.
Just because you got the wrong one didn't mean you had to go out and try to make your post a reality briztoon ...

All the Saints talk about father son and academy pick glut going to the Lions.
So, who and how many have we picked up and who went elsewhere.

My thoughts about a good Club pick be it National, Rookie, Preseason, father son academy is 100 games at the Lions
So, someone like Nathan Buckley does not count
Lions certainly have a few on our list that are likely to get over 100 games and i really hope some get well over that.
But don't count your chickens as the saying goes.

Below list of all father son and academy picks for the Lions. As best as i could research.

I left Tom Fullarton out as he was taken as a Cat B rookie (Brisbane Bullets). Played 19 Lions games and 2 with Demons
Tom was in the academy at some stage and i noticed the Lions have him in the Lions Academy Honor Roll for year 2019

Koby Evans was a West Coast nga kid.

I met Kevin Murray in the change rooms when I was 10 years old, as well as Russell Crow who looked like a giant to me. I shook hands with Kevin Murray, and as a rabid Fitzroy supporter it seemed that he was bathed in a heavenly glow. Honestly, the room smelled of sweat and liniment. My hero was wearing a girdle, call it a back brace if you like. His false teeth were out, upper and lower, and he was covered in blurry greenish tattoos. I was in awe. Years later, I met his father Dan, a lovely quietly spoken man with intense blue eyes, a reserve in the 44 Premiership. A very special family.
