Changes / discussion - Dees Round 6

IMO this will be another tough game, similar to yesterday, the Demons will cop a blast from Steven King and co and they will be up for a game against the reigning back2back Premiers.

Out- Dayne Zorko.

In- Noah Answerth.

If Noah is not ready I'd give Shadeau Brain a go, if Berry cops a suspension Sam Marshall.

Do not kick long if Max Gawn is in the vicinity, Kysaiah Pickett is a match winner, will need an all team keen awareness of him, do not let him roam free.
This post renders the thread redundant.
M Malice has nailed it.

With the inclusion of Answerth, we have our best 23 available players on the park. There are also some interesting decisions to be made later in the year, because players like Gallop have cemented their spots and Draper and Allen are automatic selections. Where that leaves Payne, Zorko, Hipwood and Gardiner is open to question. They are not going to be walking back into the seniors, barring injuries.

I also don’t see Fort or McCarthy being dropped, despite these two names coming up as being on the ‘fringe’ in the senior side.

I’d suggest we go into the Melbourne game with something like this:

B: Gallop, Andrews, Answerth

HB: Coleman, Lester, Wilmot

C: Berry, McCluggage, Reville

HF: McCarthy, Allen, Cameron

F: Lohmann, Morris, Rayner

Foll: Draper, Dunkley, Neale

Int: Fletcher, W. Ashcroft, L. Ashcroft, Fort, Bailey

That is a formidable line up and not one player doesn’t 100% deserve to be there.

I just rewatched the North Melbourne game and I was so happy to see Lincoln McCarthy back to his best after such a long lay off. He is incredibly important to have in the team, because he brings an extra dimension to our forward line. McCarthy has incredibly high football IQ, is a strong contested mark, is quick and his set shot accuracy is clutch. Having McCarthy and Coleman in the seniors and playing good football provides incentive and hunger for the whole group as they strive to win a premiership.

Just quoting this for emphasis.
Yes indeed. On the upside, Fort has some good form against Gawn and Draper really matches up well, especially in marking contests around the ground.

In Draper we finally have a player who can take a Gawn like mark down the wing after kick offs

I have been surprised by how high Draper can get in the centre square throw ups, he will give us some sublime hit outs to advantage in finals, some were saying he would never be able to leap again due to his achilles injuries.

2-3 weeks out for Zorko. Will miss Dees, Crows, and Dons.
it was good of Zork’s body to hold up for 2-years while Kiddy got through his injuries.
He will come back into the side when he’s fit, but this will be the first view of life after Zorko. Should be interesting.

We have, without a shadow of doubt, the best Recruiting Manager in the AFL in Steve Conole. It is amazing to think that having won ‘back to back’ Premierships, we were able to add Oscar Allen and Sam Draper to our list. Already they have made a massive impact to our team in terms of on field flexibility and capacity. Rather than tapering off after three Grand Finals in a row and two Premierships, we actually look significantly stronger this year. Credit also has to go to Chris Fagan and the players, because the culture that has been developed at Brisbane is second to none. I have never, even during the 2001-2003 era, felt more bullish about the Lions. We are privileged to be part of what is unfolding in 2026 and there is no reason to assume that the rest of the decade is going to be any different from the last two seasons. It is possible that we are only going to become more dominant.

I think it goes to show what an amazing achievement the 2025 premiership was.
We went in with a 2nd string ruck (no disrespect to Fort), and a makeshift tall forward line.
The addition of Draper and Allen plugs those holes, and can hopefully carry us through the season.
Both players coming in allow our young talls in Gallop & ZZ to develop without the spotlight on them, and potential battering of regular ruckwork before their bodies are ready.

I would be surprised if Noah is ready - it looked like it was a bad concussion at the time and he wasn't back training last week.

I am not expecting him to play either.
Brain has been emergency the last 2 weeks but i think we could bring in Marshall instead.
Reville to defense and Marshall to the wing.

Happy enough for Brain or another defender to get a go through.

Hopefully bad Melbourne and good Brisbane turn up. Like a stress free win.
We kind of own the MCG now but the Dees speed of play will worry us.

Do you think Albo will declare a public holiday 3KZ?

"Frogfest" has a nice ring to it.
He really should. He might bust out the decks and DJ on the opening night of Frogfest.
