I think it very smart play by WC to let everyone assume they'll take Duursma and CDT. And let's be honest, keeping their cards close to their chest is something WC actually do very well.

They will know from the clubs who come calling for pick 1 or 2, who they are chasing. If it's CDT and WC aren't fussed on him, then #1 goes put with a high premium - another 2 picks inside the top half dozen.

Allows them to have half the first 6 picks including taking their 1st preference - Duursma

very smart business

Depending who is a realistic chance to be traded in and probably only have room for maybe 2, a B grade mid and a partly competent ruck better than BW/Reidy.

Before any trade for Ryan has a different look at the draft and trade space.
I would seriously be wanting around an end of 1st round, say pick 20 as Ryan's value.
This pushes 2 things differently, swap a player of quality and of our need Wilson and we will probably send a token pick back F3rd to get it over the line.
R Marshall on 3 years and a bigger $$.
Expect Windhager to stay but he must be in the conversation.
This is the acceptable outcome.
Don't know where STK are thinking they are getting draft capital for Ryan and supposed Aleer chase without using some creative moving/trading pick of their pick 7.

We want Ryan and they need draft capital.
If Ryan leaves, are we getting Wilson/Marshall/Windhager and some moving of picks to be compatible or are we getting pick 20 and using this Hawks 2nd, Hawks 3rd for players in the mould of Ah Chee/Davies?

I cannot disagree with this any more. It really really really is.
The issue is we have deficiencies in every other area except key forward that it looks even worse.
A better ruck isn’t going to win us any games. Give us prime cox and we still win 1 game. We can find a ruck when our midfield isn’t dogshit

The drafting department has done a pretty good job since the changing of hands in that department (with the exception of Bo Allen over Murphy Reid). If they decide to go with CDT so be it. I have reasonable confidence in them to make a good call. But my own preference based on what i know and have read on here regarding him is that i would rather they didn't. I would rather two gun midfield prospects.

Ryan -> roughly pick 20 equivalent or Barrat(idk), draft a KPD with that pick or just use Barrat
Allen fetches band 1 compo
Rucks stay the same for another year(theres no one better available to us)
Find some midfield depth for cheap(doesnt have to be a huge upgrade, just someone who should be best 22 when Yeo is out and can do full games in the midfield if needed and get 20+ disposals and tackle)
Draft Duursma + whatever else as long as it includes at least one CBA mid.
Take Banfield + a couple NGAs in the draft or as rookies, doesnt really matter too much
Look at adding a cheap KPD as depth if we have a list spot

Thats about as good as we can realistically expect at this stage. Doesnt need to be much more than that happening

If only Marshall at the 'aints was a couple of years younger. With TDK inbound he might have considered coming over on a 3-4 year deal, I reckon but can't see him upping stumps for a 2 year deal. I rate him more highly than Cameron for blokes around the same age and he leaves Flynn for dead.

Why draft Banfield because of his name ? He has to be the best available player when we have our pick.
W.A. players like Farrow , Swadling, Rodriguez and Curtin would be way ahead of him in the talent stakes in my opinion.

McGovern has retired, Allen is on his way and we’ve delisted Jamieson. The future of Livingstone is uncertain and Barnett should be at risk of being paid out

That’s a lot of height being lost so we will need to add a KPP or two this offseason so I understand why we are considering Duff-Tytler even if I’d prefer someone else with those two early picks

Duursma and CDT seems a very high risk pairing
beat me to it, add in jack williams ceiling. i wouldnt be surprised if we wet duursmma cdt then schubert tbh, cdt and schu can both play chb, yes we need mids and i want grlj but a tall injury or 2 ad livingston is playing league footy and thats a big no bueno

Why do you think itd be just because of his name?

We get him super cheap by matching a bid either for 0 draft capital or as a rookie.

We need to light a fire under Brockman's asse in 2026. Give him the same speach we presumably gave Chesser this year, the gist of which will be "This is it Bro, start performing, start contributing now this year or your career is over, this is your last chance". Next year is his 6th year on an AFL list. Currently he is nothing more than a passenger showing occasional glimpses of talent. Not good enough at this point in his career.

We should not be going through what Hawthorn have already done. We already knew these answers.

Peoples insistence on drafting more and more mids has blinded some to our list balance a bit tbh.

We lack talls now, we have a bunch of mids who are just young, too early to write them all(except Harley and Hewett) off now

If he goes to the Dogs Buss is a good chance to request a trade.

Im not going to assume Buss would be a great long term option for us, but he'd fix a hole in our depth for sure.

Pushes likely Bazzo and Brock to be our WAFL KPDs?
Thats where we need to be imo

CDT will end up a chf/ruck imo, hes 2 cm shorter than grundy atm while still growing, CDT main hurt is when ball is at and around the ground atm

Bussingler has looked really ordinary IMO.

I do think Archer + CDT as a combo(Archer main ruck) could be pretty good with the likely rule changes.

Yes it may mean it makes no sense for us to draft Walsh/BVR in the next couple of years if we are still in the position to, but gotta take what we know is available to us

Matt Crouch has retired due to a hip problem

Scratch him off as an option

At 31 early in season 2026, what was he actually an option for? Keeping the medical team on their toes and adding experience to the resume of our junior physios?

His last injury free season was 2017 when he played 25 games.
He's only managed 39 games in the last 5 years.
