I don’t see how we can bring in Ridley.
He’s a contracted player and we have very little draft capital.
We have to have enough to get Annable.
Even if we lose both Starce and Ah Chee, I doubt we’ll get enough to satisfy Essendon.
I’d be interested if anyone can see a realistic way for it to happen.
I think as previous posters have pointed to, if we can position our offer for Draper to net top shelf compo it might help sway the Bombers to release him.

That or packaging up the picks we receive for Ah Chee and Starcevich (assuming Eagles are forced to trade if/when the AFL knocks back their exemption) for a higher one somewhere might unlock it.

On Footy Furnace tonight Tom Morris was adamant that the Bombers list manager has been told in no uncertain terms that J Ridley wants to play for the Lions next season, take this how you wish. ;)

It’s an omen. The last time we signed one Bombers tall as a FA it resulted in a flag. Sign two…

I’m not huge on Draper either, but if they were willing to send Ridley our way through increased compo out of that signing it would be a massive win. That said, surely the Dons will play hardball. Laverde, McKay and others don’t look to be of his calibre based on the limited times I’ve watched them play.

Is it true that from this year, future picks can be traded for the next two years?
With Tasmania entering the draft in 2027, that year will be very compromised for other clubs.
Future 2027 picks could be used to sweeten a deal for Ridley, leaving the 2026 picks for the emerging academy kids.

I refuse to believe a Mitch robbo and PED Beastmode report as real.
they had Ricky Nixon on there talking to someone on a phone , i swear to god it sounded like Ricky Nixon had pre recorded what he was going to say and pretended like it was a phone call, both voices sounded like him

I dont think beast mode and robbo know what they are going on about

Not to steal @briztoon’s position but think I’m sceptical re Ridley and would rather keep picks.

Really, really good player but body is cooked - barely over 100 games in 9 years. Not keen unless it is massively discounted, a few too many injury prone guys being brought in at once.

Just get Oscar Allen, whatever second string ruck is available and reserve cap space and picks for trade period next year.

I get the feeling the way this all pans out is Ah Chee ends up going (somewhere) he looked checked out. Starcevich stays as we bump up an offer. Ridley comes in but not sure how we do it yet … maybe with something we get for Ah Chee ? Depending where he decides to go?

Yeah, I’m Drapers number one cheerleader on here. Admired him for seasons. I’m just not the pom pom waving type that Elixuh is.

Wasn't Starcevich linked to Essendon last week?
your right Starc was. But Starc is a free agent, off he goes. Ridley I understand it contracted, if he wants out he has to be traded. We may get a very low level compensation pick, with Allen coming in that compensation would be pretty much nothing. I saw a suggestion a future second round pick may be enough to get Ridley. Is his risks anything like that?

Anyone else heard whispers of Sam Walsh and management enquiring about a move out of Carlton? Lions supporter growing up, bring him back home. 🦁

Not the player he was a couple of years ago, and I think our midfield is pretty full. Plus his salary would be hard to accommodate given we have needs elsewhere on the list.

Geelong would be after him no doubt.

Very interesting to see how we make some of these moves happen TBH.
Likewise, a lot will depend on what the AFL decide to do with the West Coast compo stuff. If they allow them to sign Starce without ruining their Allen compensation that’ll screw us over massively. If they give them a mid first round pick that needs to be traded to us for Starce that’ll allow us to flip that into Ridley. Would imagine that’ll annoy quite a few other clubs though. Otherwise I like the idea of us paying Draper enough for band 1 in return for Essendon paying the difference on Ridley’s contract and maybe sending a future pick to them.

We've always been associated with plenty of player movement fodder. First we the basket case and desperate to get anyone in. Now we’re the ultimate destination club when everyone wants to come to. An easy club for managers to drop to the media in a bit of a contract negotiation.
