At worst we have zero AFL quality KPDs and one at absolute best.

Barrat and Schubert can play KPF and need time to develop. In Harley’s last contracted year for example they will turn 22 and 21 respectively. We can’t keep kicking the KPD can down the road. Look at North. Edwards and Blight provide cost free, serviceable options in the meantime.

Bazzo and Brock would not hold a spot on any other list apart from maybe North Melbourne.

I can certainly see the play for Barrat swap for Ryan and maybe something more our way and Blight for free.
I have not seen him play or watched him play since being drafted but if he is a quality CHB and grown a little since his draft of 194cm I can see the interest.

We have D Shanahan as a KPD NGA next year and by reports of some who have seen him he is an athletic, high leaping, strong prospect and will be pushing 200cm next year.

Put Barrat and Blight into our side solves the short term KPD problem as far as we will have depth and Blight and Bazzo can fight out a list spot in 2026 and 1 or both can be delisted.

It's his core strength/body spoiling...It'll come.
He wont end up a beast of course but he'll get a bit thicker. It's the only thing holding him back a bit.

I really don’t have it out for him. Good guy, seems popular with the playing group and would be a weapon with his kick and speed.

He just doesn’t have anything else that says to me that he’ll be a medium term AFL player. Clearly, along with yourself the club feels differently given they’ve signed him to a two year extension. I hope you’re both right.

Problem I see with this is he has already had 4 afl pre seasons, I’m not certain he is capable of putting together an afl frame, let alone one required for a kpd role.

I like him, but I’m unconvinced he isn’t just holding an afl spot until something better comes long.

In regards to blight, this is why I was a little baffled by such a haste recommitment to Bazzo. Adding blight feels like just adding more mediocrity to a mediocre kpd room, but I do think he is better then Bazzo and hence wish we had waited a bit before giving him another year.

I don't mind Brock, but the bloke was on Fold Coasts list for 3 entire seasons prior to coming here.

He's not a teenager, he's about to turn 23. If he hasn't put on weight or filled out as a KPD by this point, you've got to presume he's going to stay this way.

Solid depth for mine, but I don't expect much from his career tbh.

He actually has been very decent for most of the year but even if he puts on some kg he will be a CHB type in the way he plays and reads the ball.
Won't ever be that big 1 on 1 big KPD type and that ok.

He’s clearly a natural ectomorph, but that’s good. He doesn’t need to turn into Bane overnight, just strengthen through core.
Let’s be real here lads, I know stones in glass houses, but the Gold Coast Suns hasn’t always been known for bringing out the best in players let alone fringe talls.

It also depends whether they had intended on him being a body on body CHB with closing speed and reach as his strengths or a loose third man intercepter. Yes, his body strength is below par, but half a missing pre season means we aren’t seeing peak Sandy Brock.

I think you’re really undervaluing Barrat here. Saints won’t want to straight swap him for Liam, in my view us paying Liam’s salary would be roughly even. He’s also two years ahead of D Shanahan in development. He would be in top 15-20 considerations in this year’s draft and a straight pick in that range would be about right for Liam.

In 2024 he played the loose at half back role(no idea why he was even in that role, it didnt suit him at all).

This year he played more off half forward and a bit in the middle after they recruited Noble and Rioli to be at half back.

Tauru/Caminiti are more forwards than defenders..

If we can improve and get someone like James Barrat who I remember had huge hype, then great. Superb. Brock can take Bazzo’s spot as the spare tall defender who we select based on matchup.

I definitely didn’t have Harry Edwards as my most improved player on my 2025 bingo card so as I keep saying, take my opinions with a big **** off grain of salt

I think the Saints have used him poorly in the 2s. Think he’d love and thrive in a role further up the ground. Hopefully he’s open to a move.

I watched a number of Saints matches because of NAS, and Caminiti and Tauru were always in defence. Would think with King out they'd give them extended time up forward if that's where they see their futures

Given the current state of our list we should be doing due diligence by at least contracting anyone we could get cheaply. I don't think we should go down the Hollands route but no harm in talking to the bloke.
