Not that I care but if we win SANfL and afl this week, if the club came out and said we are picking Rachelle in a SanFL prelim final on managed minutes (playing a half) as prep for our AFL prelim what kind of backlash would we expect from SANFL perspective.

Happens all the time in season but I imagine for a big final it’d be controversial and open a whole discussion around AFL in the SANFL and integrity.

Would the prospect be enough to stop us doing it and only playing him if he could play majority game SANFL?

Depends when our game the following week as to whether we'd play him.

Personally I dont think he should be able to, and thats nothing to do with me being a Sturt fan, it just doesnt sit well.

Of course he should play. He needs match fitness before the AFL Prelim. Thats what our reserves side is for. The clubs voted for us and port to be in the league. They should have voted against it. Then both of us and Port would be in the extended VFL league now.

If it was stipulated he’d play on managed minutes then I don’t think they would

And the VFL has more AFL listed players.

Plus less umpires collecting the aged pension.

VFL also where aspiring AFL umpires ply their trade.

When Tassie and the next team come in that will impact the SANFL further.


No shame in being the third tier comp. But let's not pretend it isn't.

I was 9 years old when crows entered AFl. My Dad brother and i stopped going to Norwood games and started going to crows games. So i only had the age of 4-8 going to Norwood matches. I only really follow through internet and SANFLNow. Where I follow crows much more heavilly.

If Rachele isn't capable of playing even a quarter or a half today, is he unlikely for Friday night? Surely some game time in an SANFL Final (even if 10 minutes a quarter) is good prep for Friday night, where we'll need him at his best? This goes the same for Michalanney last week, who looked terribly out of touch against Collingwood.

You dont take a risk with top talent in the SANFL. I also think the club are more keen to win a SANFL flag than they have been, which means playing effectively 1 down isnt ideal.

Max should have played a half last week in SANFL to blow out some cobwebs. Rachele should be doing that today.

Would not have mattered 1 bit, such is the difference in standard of the 2.

Quality wise sure, no question.

But youre immediately playing with 21 for the majority of the game.

The result of the reserves doesn't matter if it makes a small percent positive difference to the AFL team. That is the point of the Reserves.

I'd also argue some match time in an SANFL Final is better practice than either nothing, or any extra training you could come up with to prepare for an AFL Final.

On a 4 day break ?? Nah.

I suspect Max woke up pretty sore yesterday and Friday. If you did that last week he'd have struggled to get up for Thursday.

I do get what youre saying, but the SANFL finals being on Sundays (no issue with that) makes it tougher to do.

5 Day Break actually. Well Dowling, Draper, Schoenberg all should be pulled out today then as well. Might be needed in 5 days time.

Max would have had to play off a 4 da6 break, even 5 isnt enough.

Of those 3, only Dowling would be a chance. Sid just getting to the line and Harry not good enough
