No harm in discussing possible trades regardless of whether they’re realistic or not

It can be the pissing and moaning when those fantasies don’t come to fruition that gets tedious

Flanders would be a great addition to our midfield. Hell he could even bring his mate Fiorini as a FA. Imagine having a couple of mids that can actually accumulate the footy 😱
Throw in Walter, Davies, Moyle and Knobel.

Poaching some fringe players is the least they deserve for wearing our colours. TF was that all about

Someone who’s more than two fifths of half a smidgeon of a chance, preferably.

Good thing the Club were not locked in on that mantra, otherwise we would have never got Daisy to join the Club.

Sort of like not asking the pretty girl at the dance, ..... for a dance ......, the guy next to you with a set of stones, asks her and end up marring her.

And like 95% of the population who are presented with an excellent investment or business opportunity, that require you kick in a quarter of a million ( that you need to borrow ), most people say ... argh thanks, but I'll pass on that.

Being an old timers two truisms have rung true in my journey thus far.
If you never ask the the question, its the same answer - its always a no, so dare to ask and yes it might be a NO, but you will never know if you don't ask, IF - it could have been a YES.
Those who dare win, most people love winning, but only a very small few have the balls to accept the dare and take a calculated risk.

Footy Clubs in some ways are like people in life, those who know very well, that the chances of someone saying yes are small, but still ask the question and those who take calculated risks are much more likely to be successful than those who don't, those who always play it safe, and don't ask the questions or take the risk, the former group also tend to be the ones that do well and get the chocolates.

Not having a dig at you Miguel, more so having a go at the negativity that prevails on this board.

We need a few positions but a Ned Long type should be high on the list this off season because it should be easy to find and cheap. For some reason we avoid it every off season

Like this strategy from the Bulldogs. Saints trying to pry out players from other clubs and wanting to lose nobody.
Their must be doubt for certain Saints players about their future.
Not doubts just the saints are creating the haves and have nots in terms of salary .

Henry Hustwaite?

Yeah agreed, completely fair and reasonable.

We do also need to consider that he came in late as a SSP so didn’t have a full pre season, so he has the chance to build that core and some size.
Has been on the GC list for what, 3 years already? I think he's pretty close to the finished product.

Money talks ;
We got money;
Best stadium;
Best crowd ;
We got Harley;
A one win season isn’t a stumbling block!
Any football person with half a brain can see we have put down some very good building blocks!
Opportunity beckons! Go West young man!

Think we should look at getting Nick Daicos out of Collingwood.

Would be playing for unders at Collingwood and we have the cap space to pay him over 2 mill a season. Collingwood would be keen on the draft picks we could offer too because they don't have much youth. Maybe we could throw Jack Williams in too as they need a key forward

Guys like Ned Long can slot into a stacked, experienced team like Collingwood because they are....stacked and experienced.

He would flounder as a top 3 mid in a weak midfield.

It's (not) happening!!!!

No way is someone that only kicked 20 odd goals worth pick 8, he's way past his best probably only worth a 3rd pick at best.
Then we don't trade him. No point letting him go for a 3rd rounder. I'd rather let him walk for free next year as I think he'd provide more worth on the field this year.

He’ll be a free agent next year and at least we’d get compensation. Even more reason to drive a hard bargain this year and even have the gall to ask for a player that a team also doesn’t want to trade.

For all this talk about the saints becoming real players in trading /list management...didnt they try this a few years ago when they brought in Dougal howard, brad hill, zac jones, dan hannebry, jake Carlisle etc.

Getting Shanahan at 30 was our draft team being hit in the arse by a rainbow unicorn draft slide.
You still have to acknowledge we made a good decision in taking him though. Because there were 10 picks before us whee you could say other draft teams were hit in the arse by the same rainbow unicron draft slide & still missed the opportunity

He’s clearly a natural ectomorph, but that’s good. He doesn’t need to turn into Bane overnight, just strengthen through core.
Let’s be real here lads, I know stones in glass houses, but the Gold Coast Suns hasn’t always been known for bringing out the best in players let alone fringe talls.

It also depends whether they had intended on him being a body on body CHB with closing speed and reach as his strengths or a loose third man intercepter. Yes, his body strength is below par, but half a missing pre season means we aren’t seeing peak Sandy Brock.

dinnaz.

Happy to trade Ryan. He wants to go whether we like it or not. He is 30 and injury prone and therefore not a key plank in the timeframe we are working on (i.e. 3 - 5 year horizon). He is not worth pick 8. Lets be honest. But he is worth something useable. 3rd rounder in a weak draft is borderline useable. And he is under contract which adds a premium. Something in the 20's is acceptable.
