Well, he was denied a chance to impress at the national championships due to a 14 week injury and now denied a second time to impress due to a perplexing ruling. Very sad for the young bloke and EF.

Surely he's done enough in league, and in last years colts season to build a reputation for himself.

Carello is the best draft prospect coming out of WA. You don't see Fred, Toby, Cody, Farrow having 20+ disposals for 4 league games in a row. Fred had a measly 6 disposals. Its just dissapointing how the tables turn on such a good player

Saw a draft prediction today on Instagram from picks 1-40, didn't even have Fred in the top 40. Swaddling and Farrow both appeared in it however. While his draft position has fallen significantly, it seems Victorian media are trying to push their own players, as we know the AFL is very much Vic biased. Fred skill level is elite never less and i strongly believe a top 20 draft pick is still on the cards for him.

I Personally think hes overrated in my opinion and i think the fame has gotten to his head. I think hes gotten a bit arrogant towards his spot when i think hell now be a second round pick. Its sad because he used to dominate but now hes not as good as he used to be.

East Fremantle pulled off a minor upset in defeating Claremont in Finals week 1 but it wasn't the fault of Charlie Banfield.

Now listed at 191cm and perhaps even an inch or two taller - he is quite an imposing figure for a midfielder.

His disposal is still a work in progress but the extra height he now has enables him to be a marking weapon around the ground and there was never any question about the effort he gives.

He is also very good at getting first hands on the ball at stoppages and is strong enough to push aside tackles (or do too much and get caught on rare occasions).

A WA state draft combine invite also and a tantalising taller mid prospect for any AFL club.

Who would you say is WA's best prospects. Regardless of if they made state 18's or if there not on draft boards, as we all know selection for state this year was piss poor.

Guys firstly Carello handballs a lot & you can't compare a midfielders stats to someone that played in the forward pocket.

I think people are being a bit harsh on Fred. The facts are that he was still named the best player for WA in the champs. If you ask any colts coach about who is the most dangerous player in the comp, they will all say Fred. He is tagged every week by sometimes 2 guys & this frees Toby up to rack up the stats. If you don't believe me watch this weekend when Tom Grylls spends all day staring at Fred & not looking at the ball.

Haha....."Lucky Grylls"....that's an old school Bargearse/Bluey reference, is one of my favourites. A no nonsense sort of mid.

Fred does not defend and only goes on offense i think if you put him on luke carello head to head. Carello would dominate, even if he does handball a little bit it doesnt mean anything. Fred got 6 disposals in his league debut while carello got 23 which is crazy for a 17 year old.

Grylls will more than hold his own against the SF mid. The wet weather actually suits him better, he loves the scrap and thrives on these types of matchups. Wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up getting the better of the sf mid.
Grylls > Rodriquez !!!!!!

Swadling had 21 and 1 whilst playing forward in League. Also Carrellos been playing wing which is an extremely hard position to play. You can have days where you have 20 touches and then days where you have 5. But having 20 four weeks in a row regardless of handball ratio (which shouldnt be a downside to someone's game), As a 18 year old, whilst its his first 4 games back from injury, whilst his debut is 22 touches... Shows promise. I think Carellos body is more mature and would be able to adapt to AFL quicker with his league experience.

I don't know why the AFL community still count stats as a the main performance criteria. A player can get 30 possessions and only 10 of those are effective. Yet a forward can get 6 kicks and kick 3 goals, but not get mentioned?

Big kid! Seems bigger than 191cm

Takes a good grab, & kick seems fine. What's his athleticism like?

Certainly looks very draftable

How does Creyk not get a game? I know he's got plenty of years ahead but surely in their best 22 already.

Yeah I know. 3rd meeting between these guys in the wet. I'd love to see how the teams look in the dry.
and at full strength.....EF hasn't had that luxury yet......especially with Ramsay and Carrello out for large portions of the season with injury....
