The absolute doomsday mood in here after 1 loss against a red hot cat side is unreal.

We win that game and Im sure the talk is about dynasty instead.

We have 5 players in the under 21 AA side and dont rely on 1 player.

If we have all players in our squad available and add Allen, Draper, Ripley even if we lose a few in the other direction we are still set up to be in the top 4 and contending for years to come.
You could be right but hopes and dreams can evaporate fairly quickly in the AFL.

No one's doomsdaying . Just ruminating on our significant injury issues and musing how we'd fill gaps in our list.

We have a lot of good players . But other teams keep improving as well.

I’m ready to duck for cover on this one, but would someone like the Saints Arie Shoenmakers be worth a look now that they’ve brought in Silvagni; no idea his contract status.
OOC this year I think. Not sure if they plan to re-sign him or what

It's not so much what I would do.

I wouldn't have offered Cameron and Hipwood those longer contracts, even on lower coin.

Otherwise we're really dependent on who's leaving and who's arriving, and the who comes back from injury good to go.

I would be saying to Cameron that you're not guaranteed best 22, this what we need from you.

Similarly, I'd be telling Will McLachlan, we need you to do what Kai did 24 months ago, work on his running and defensive pressure. We know you can fly, but you really, really need to round out the rest of your game.

And I would be moving Zakostelsky forward and saying there's a forward ruck role up for grabs. Potentially now, but more likely in the not too distant future.

I believe there's a fair bit of over rating Gallop on here. While he does try hard, and is willing to defend and apply pressure, he's actually not that fast/athletic or agile at all. Turning circle a little better than the Queen Mary. But he's the best we have in the reserves.
The Queen Mary was more nimble than you remember.

Neither is Zakostelsky.

I rate Zakostelsky higher than those other options.

Have always said I don't rate McInerney or Smith as rucks (or ruck prospects) and definitely not as part time forwards.

Agree.
McInerney rucked us all the way to a winning prelim last year, and if not for doing his shoulder he’d be a premiership ruckman. He’s not Max Gawn - but there’s only one of those.

Oh, he gets a game because we don't have another tall forward who could be best 22.

We're a league with a dearth of quality tall players.
Likely to only get worse with the league expanding further, too. As mentioned elsewhere, I'd be looking at how we can innovate with our forward setup.

They're hard to find, but with Charlie’s steep decline, I think a genuine list need is a small forward with strong tackle pressure. I’d hope we’re still in discussions with Malcolm Rosas Jnr. He’s shown he has that string to his bow and has had a few games where he’s hit the scoreboard. There could also be others in the state leagues I’m less familiar with. Guys like Mannagh, Stengle, Papley, even Callinan have come in and made an impact—so there might be scope to take a chance on someone out there.

Broadly speaking, we've made some shrewd recruitment moves over the last few years, and they’ve rightly been praised. But we’re not immune to risk if we’re too aggressive in recruiting the walking wounded. Allen, Ridley, and to a lesser extent Draper are all talented, but they’re rehabbing injuries. I imagine the club puts a lot of thought into balancing confidence in our medical and conditioning programs with the inherent risks.

With Hipwood down, Neale starting to show some soft tissue concerns, and McCarthy coming back from another knee, player availability could sneak up on us if we're not careful—especially with Doedee, Berry, and Coleman also in the injury mix.

Please let us not be enquiring about Mitch McGovern

Rumour flying around that Ridley is willing to take a pay cut to come to Bris.

Yeah this was mentioned last week, the problem is that he has a lengthy contract, we don't hold any cards here and we don't have many to play to get him unless we get some decent picks in for Cal and Starc.

I think the main card we can play is bumping their compensation for Draper from band 2 to 1, if he chooses Brisbane, and combining that with some other asset(s).

Other than that I agree, hard to see how we get it done.

That's an easy one. We offer Draper $200K per year over market value for the first 4 years of his contract. We offer Ridley $200K under market value to take on his contract for 4 years, with Essendon picking up the difference to the end of his current contract. Problem solved.
Then pass hand over whatever other draft picks are required to get the deal done (assuming it's a deal we want to get done).

Fly him straight down, put him on a brisbane lions jumper and get the article up on lions.com.au about how excited he's to move over to QLD. We have that card up our sleeve for sure.

yep, bump up draper and get them a band 1. Find another free agent from essendon list and give that player 800-850k to trigger one more band 1. Then bombers can pay the same amount in Ridley's salary to offset our cost and can trade him for a round 4 pick.

I'm not so worried about Ty's turning circle, what we really need is a quick, strong leadup forward who runs both ways and with experience he could do that. But just in case how much do you think this Q. Mary would cost us?

Details revealed of Eagles' pitch for draft assistance package
The Eagles have also put forward their hope to not have their Oscar Allen free agency compensation pick – expected to be No.2 – diluted if they bring in a free agent this year.
West Coast is keen on Brisbane's Brandon Starcevich as a free agent and has discussed the possibility of an exemption for having its free agency compensation pick diluted if another free agent comes into the club.
However, that bid is not expected to be granted as part of any assistance given by the AFL given it would disadvantage Brisbane's ability to match a free agency offer and force a trade.
