My first thoughts were that this is a make or break contract for Chesser, and he probably thinks he has a better shot of making it at the Blues with senior players for support than at the historically bad Eagles.

Chess and Ryan leaving underlines the requirement to prise a couple of senior players free from other clubs, rather than just take more picks (or at least translate picks into senior players).

We're losing a decent amount of experience/ development time between these 2.

And yet, you’d assume he’s got a mate at the club or some sort of connection. It’s a weird thing to go early on when it’s not your lane. You’d presume a fellow SEN journo would have the confirmation tweet by now.

My feel is where there’s smoke there’s fire, surely.

Chesser is precisely the type of player we should be targeting, and we've consistently failed to land one. He's a top-end pick that failed to launch. The fact that he's from a poor team and has had injury problems only makes the risk he makes it higher.

Instead, we pick experienced spuds from other clubs.

I don’t disagree with you, and good process doesn’t always equal good results, but SPS and to a lesser extent Brockman aren’t exactly feathers in the recruitment team’s cap by any stretch.

I’d prefer to keep Chesser for sure, just saying we’ve tried the low cost high upside reclamation youth projects too.

8 off the senior list (3 retirees, Allen, Ryan and Chesser leaving through trade/FA, Petch and Jamo delisted)

Replaced by 4/5 ND picks, 2/3 recycled players, Dewar and possibly Hutch upgraded.

Rookie list: Rawlinson and Dewar off gets us back to normal size. Hutch off would create a List A vacancy. Livingstone off would create a List B vacancy. That’s assuming no extra spots as a result of an assistance package.

Chesser must be still making up his mind. If he had decided to leave then there is no reason why he wouldn't have already told the club that by now.

I can see the vAFL not giving us anything except extra rookie spots x2 and that's about it.
That would make 10 list spots available with paying out Barnett and keeping Livingstone.
Significant turnover again.

3 ND and 4 NGA/FS picks leaves a minimum for 3 mature players.

It will be interested if we have someone on the hook for the midfield A grade and use the Hawks 1st round pick for that.
That would be 4 mature players, picks 1 & 2 on mids unless there is a VERY good offer for pick 2 that includes something like 2 picks around 4, 5, 6.

Use all our other draft capital for mature players like Starcevich(trade for), Ah Chee, McVee, Flanders, Davies.
I would be inclined to trade for Starcevich like some have mentioned so we don't stuff up our FA compo for OA and package up for Ah Chee.

We will have our 2nd round, Hawks 2nd, Ryan trade, Hawks 3rd, Chesser trade to attack the trade period.
I would even be aggressive enough to cut further if the right player becomes available.
We are going to get a pick in the early, mid 20's for Ryan, Chesser 3rd round and those picks can be valuable to get targets.

Make it happen in 2025 with everything we have got draft and trade and push everything we can't get done into 2026.

Yeah bit surprising no one else has jumped on board the news, agree with this statement. Something is definitely brewing

Bummer if it’s true, really liked Chesser’s end to the season and as others have said it is the type of player we actually need. If he wants out then simple, get the best possible return for him

May be unrealistic options but things I’d entertain:

- Chesser and Hawks pick for one of their compo picks.
-Chesser (+?) for Moir
- Chesser for Hollands on the proviso if he ****s up he gone. Stick him with the best host family we have to keep an eye on him lol.
