Who cares? He's a bonafide star and leader.

Neale wouldn't be coming here to lead us into our next finals campaign - He'd be coming to lead, set elite standards, & support our young mids for 2-3yrs.

It's a Mitchell to WCE, or Hodge to Bris type move. It'd be a salary dump for Bris, & cost us minimal draft capital.

Would love the rumour to be real
I love Neale because despite being a little guy he’s hard as a cats head, a leader, a clean player, everything good about the game (except being ex purple, but he had the good sense to purge that in the Queensland sun).

Three years at a million bucks. Co captain.

Whatever. Make it happen Phil.

I would pay more to get him across the line if any of it's true.

What credit should Ryan get? It’s alright to through out random stats but seriously there is nothing there to say we have to keep him.

No, I referred to him as Junktime which most people have taken on when he is referred to be it in jest or mockery.. I also said he wouldn’t back that year up this year.. and I was correct.
Ryan had a solid season and is still one of the most gifted small forwards in the game. You forget he averaged more than a goal a game in the team with the lowest inside 50's. Also played half the season covering our shit midfield up the ground or playing as an effective key forward with dump kicks bombed on his on his head three out with Allen and Waterman missing.

Neale is 32 years of ago with soft tissue injuries. 3 year x $1m would be professional negligence imo.
It needs to be a Hodge deal. Maybe 1 year with triggers for a 2nd.

The AFL will continue to give us poor tv spots and a majority of Sundays while we continue to perform as we do. We are in no position to ask for anything. We are the bottom of the barrel and need to fight for everything until we get back on track.

This is nothing but an urban myth farce. Essendon got more prime-time games than any other team this season despite dishing up tripe for years. It's pretty simple, the AFL puts what they want where they want, let's not pretend it's based on performance.

I'm going to need to see a photo of Lachie Neale standing next to Mcqualter holding an Eagles jumper before I believe there's anything to this.

But in terms of fit we also hate Nat Fyfe and love lingering soft tissue injuries, so it's tough to see how it wouldn't work.

He is all of those things. And yet, we have to expect to pay overs to get him.

Front load the **** out of it while we have the room, if he retires a year early so be it.

Essentially make it a three year deal at 2.5, so 1/1/500? Yes it is overs. Very overs. But we’ve got the room

Maybe it’s a fanciful number, it was more hyperbole than actual list management, but the principle and idea remains the same. A long deal overpaid. Two with a trigger for a third perhaps

It will be 2 for 1.6.

He has a million sitting on his current contract with one yr left. We would have to pay that and then another 600-700 for the second year. It won't be three.

Would be happy to take Neale but don't think he's coming for a deal similar to Mitchell. He's 32, Mitchell was 34, there's a few more years in the tank. Would pay what it takes in salary, but unless it's a free pick from the AFL, it could be fraught with danger.

If we get what we've requested from the AFL in terms of PPs, we could send them along with some sort of combo of our 2x2nds and 2x3rds for all 3 of Neale, Ah Chee and Starcevich

We get 3 experienced guys from an elite team for each area of the ground, they get a heap of points and cap space

It does actually seem doable in terms of capital, it's the convincing him (or any of them) to come that's the tough part

Neale would be fantastic for the development of the squad. In an article earlier this year on him one of his coaches said it’s no accident that he became the player he is, he refused to accept just being a good player and has strived for excellence and constant improvement throughout his career. In particular he has spent a hell of a lot of time refining his ground ball work and ball handling generally.

Reading that some people in here think Neale is either nearly cooked or injury prone, don’t see how either of those things are true.

Had an unlucky end to the year and was probably rushed back, but still managed to play 21 games

Still playing at an elite level as well, numbers and impact wise.

Couldn’t think of a better senior midfielder to help us for the next 2 years than Neale, can play inside and outside, is a neat user, runs hard both ways, incredibly tough, an elite accumulator and a great leader and standard setter on and off the field.

Doubt we land him, but he’d be a god send here if it did eventuate.

I'm pretty sure West Coast legitimately ask for the spuddy 2.40pm timeslot on the Sunday we all hate so much.

Something about recovery/turnaround from memory. Bear in mind, that was when we were actually a competitive football team and every little edge might have mattered.

These days we could start on the Wednesday with the Oppo commencing Friday night and we'd still lose.

Hey guys, having trouble with my Firefox, any idea how many games Lachie Neale played this year? I've heard several but need confirmation.

Don Pyke has said on Duffs show I think, they need to start winning to get out of that Sunday time slot

Why quibble over money? We have so much salary cap space and literally nobody to pay with it. We won’t come close to the salary cap floor next year, or likely the year after. Pay what gets the deal done. Hoarding money gets us nowhere.

A one year offer would be insulting. He’s not Mitch Duncan on his very last legs. He played 21 games this year and 26 last year. He polled 22 Brownlow votes last year and won the bloody thing the year before. A calf injury and suddenly he’s ready for pasture?

I’d happily offer him 3 years on a million. It’s such a good investment in our team’s leadership and standards, and in young kids like Reid, Hewett and whoever we draft this season.

Imagine throwing any shade whatsoever at the idea of trading a late pick + some salary for Lachie Neale.

There's 100 reasons to do it and very few reasons, if any, not to.

You're a real piece of shit Bender_
