Hey guys. I’ve been onto the idea and have heard, that Lachie will ask for a trade home at the end of this season for a few weeks now. Now it’s started in the media which I think justifies the word getting around.

I also heard it won’t be Freo, it’ll be you guys.

Jules Neale has been desperate to get home for a while, he has his flag and I think - it will actually be mutually beneficial for Lachie and the lions.

For Lachie - he gets to take his family home to be near Jules family.

Lions - free up $800k in cap space next year and a spot for Bailey or L Ashcroft in the midfield (which is needed to sign Zac)

Eagles - 1 or 2 years of locker room and onfeild leadership.

Lachie didn’t have a pre-season, if he can get home, happy, have a decent pre-season he will 100% play some incredible footy over the next 2-3 years for you. I’d go as far as to say he could still have a BNF for you guys in him.

I’m of the mind all things considered, this will happen in the offseason and I think his huge display of emotion on the bench after his injury againts the Cats, was a sign he may have known that’s the last game he will have played in Lions colours.

Asking price? The Lions will give it their blessing, it won’t be much, 3rd rounder upgraded to a 2nd rounder or a token late pick, something like that at most, I’d suggest.

I might be wrong about that, but he is going on 33 and we will want to clear his cap space so doubt we will play hardball.

"Home.." even though he's originally from South Australia?

He also hasn't lived in WA since 2018. He's actually played just as much football and spent as much of his career in Brisbane than he did in WA now.

Hey I'm all for the story, hope it's true, but these are unfortunately facts ^

Jesus, has ANY credible source actually linked us to Neale? Or is this another BF rumour that people are trying to will into existence?
No "credible" source.

All it takes is someone claiming to be ITK and people on BF run with it like it's gospel.

Just noticed another post about it.
I'm doubtful but hopeful it can happen.

Maybe more will come out once Brisbane are eliminated.

Wow, your negativity is gonna look mighty foolish when he comes home to West Coast and gets a 2 year contract and wins the next 3 BnF's.

Appreciate you reasoned and measured post, nice to have a visiting poster of your quality.

I think you have summed the situation up, perfectly.

The two Clubs can turn this into a win /win, with which goodwill can be banked and acknowledged from both parties.
Therefore making trusted deals more likely in the future, with mutual benefit.

It's in line with what I heard some time ago.

Big upgrade on Briztoon

The rest of the post says his wife’s from WA and wants to be close to her family.

If we get what we've requested from the AFL in terms of PPs, we could send them along with some sort of combo of our 2x2nds and 2x3rds for all 3 of Neale, Ah Chee and Starcevich

We get 3 experienced guys from an elite team for each area of the ground, they get a heap of points and cap space

It does actually seem doable in terms of capital, it's the convincing him (or any of them) to come that's the tough part
No thanks

I’d bite your hand off. For all of it.

Xavier Ellis on hbg had an interesting reaction to the idea when it was proposed recently. I wouldn't be surprised if there was something to it behind the scenes.

here here to the reasoned poster, there aren't many who come in peace:thumbsu:

I have no doubt he won’t improve on it next year… his career has been in constant decline since his hamstring injury, couple that with the fact he rolls up unfit every pre season and there’s nothing to suggest he will make us regret shipping him out now.
If the stars align he may back it up at a similar level but Flyin’ is injury prone, with poor training standards and is a player who has relied hugely on his athletic traits which decrease rapidly at his age and injury history.

He would’ve had his mind made up to ask for a trade for a while, so this has essentially been his ‘contract year’ for new suitors and even then he hasn’t set the world on fire.

If held to contract he is an injury risk and seems like the type of player that would sook it up and have an even poorer attitude than usual.

Even if he had another decent year, he would be a year older and out of contract which obviously equals decreased trade value. FA compo would be next to nothing. We should’ve traded him two years ago, the sooner the better.

Hope we get a good return for him but he has to go now unless the offer is huge unders.

If Neale is going to come play for us he's going to want a lot more than $800k a year. Probably double that.

I highly doubt money would be his chief motivation if he was open to such a move.

What are you basing that logic on?

The rumour is a return to Perth for family reasons - and Freo potentially not looking to bring him in (I still think that would be a watch this space).

He's not going to be chasing a massive pay day.
