How will you come up with a package for Merrett and/or Petracca if you keep him?

Almost every scenario is based on you getting in another late first/early second to use in those deals.

Problem you guys have is the decision has to be made on Worpel as a free agent before trade period starts. If Essendon do end up back tracking on Merrett it is not going to be until the last day of the trade period.

Surely a 5 year deal given his age would be band 2. So we would match worse than that.

I don't think any club has ever matched for a Worpel level player. That's been restricted to rare instances of elite players moving.

I think the Hawks matching will ride on whether we land one of our other midfield targets. If it all turns sour from a big-fish perspective, we will need him next year.

If we get one ore more of our Trade targets, I agree the Cats and Hawks will do a deal of mutual benefit

Has his value but needs to know his limits
