The funny thing out of that being they fantasized over Brown and Fev playing together for so long due to Brown's Carlton roots, that they willed it to happen in the real season.

I love the "idea" of SOO, but as soon as someone gets a season ending injury in it, it's immediately not worth it. The only way SOO would work, long term, is to find a way to actually make it 'matter'.

Take the FA Cup & EPL. It used to be clubs went hard at FA Cup. More recently though, clubs aren't risking the same players.

I loved going to SO as a young fella , would definitely go again given half a chance, was always something about putting on a state jumper that seemed to get the players blood flowing, they're extremely competitive people.

Agree with this. Wouldn’t want to see Harley suiting up for an exhibition game. Will take one significant injury to an gun and it will go back to being full of fringe players.

Brad Hardie pro Eagles? Bwahahahahaha.

Brad Hardie has been hating on the Eagles for longer than the Dockers have existed. You have to admire Hardie tenacity for just how long he has managed to hold on to that grudge.

(For any youngsters out there who wonder why Hardie is so salty, it's because the Eagles weren't interested in him in the late 80s and he ended up at the Bad News Bears - then West Coast went and appointed Malthouse the coach for 1990 who had previously pushed Hardie out of the Doggies to the Bears. Hardie has held this grudge for nearly 40 years.)

For nearly the entire 2010s WA would have competitive against any other state's lineup. For a period we had the strongest team on paper hands down. Elite on every line with one of the all-time best 'big-6' down the spine in: JK, Franklin, Naitanui, Sandilands, Gov and Rance.

The difference between now and then couldn't be more stark. I had a look at the coaches votes for this year and the first WA eligible player is Luke Jackson at 30. The best midfield-ish players being Warner and Pickett at =42.

The highest true midfielder being Cripps' warmed up corpse at 70-odd. Grim stuff.

If anything it might cause the AFL to examine their complete failure to sustain and develop WA pathways. They've withdrawn funding and fobbed it off with the result being a dearth of WA talent, a lost decade.
