With all the attention/talk about Cam breaking so many tackles, I'd say he's in for a hard game this week. Pies will be targeting him and hitting him hard.
Fair call, but remember when Port tried that with Lachie? Tagged him hard, threw everything at him and our other mids just feasted. By halftime, the game was basically a training drill. If the Pies want to lock onto Cam, they better be ready for McCluggage, Dunkley, and the Ashcrofts to run riot. Let’s hope history repeats on Saturday.

Any chance the Pies send Billy Frampton forward to "tag" Harris Andrews ah la the 2023 GF and if so should we be worried about that.

I am sure Fages will have a strategy in mind if he or anyone else goes to Harris.

I would welcome that, if an opposition forward is more worried about Harris than being an option themselves that’s a win for us. Double win if it’s Frampton cause he would get so badly beaten by Harris that it’ll go a long way towards us winning.

I went to the game but have never watched a replay of it but did Frampton get badly beaten by Harris in the 2023 GF?

Harris didn't have a heap of impact for a while and Frampton has gotten the credit for it.

The hole in the story is that the real reason Andrews didn't have the impact was because Collingwood was hitting up midfielders and small forwards coming back into the forward 50 instead of trying to hit a target in the 50, or straight up taking a shot as they ran into the 50. That was the game where Starcevich got destroyed by Hill doing exactly that.

I doubt there will be player changes based on the weather 😂. When has that actually happened in recent years?

I’d imagine both teams will select their best 22 and let the weather be the weather.

Both teams probably unchanged unless injuries or someone coming back from injury.

Got to say, bloody huge effort to get to a prelim. Suns tired in the second half, but they threw everything at us in the first half and we were very good.

On to saturday!

Simplest summary of the game - will the pies be able to stop or ball movement? Whether it's kick mark or corridor. We need things on our terms given our lack of good key forwards. The pies will have gone to work on it after their loss, and looked at the geelong game.

Layer 2 though will be midfield. We got smacked out of the middle against Geelong so if we win out of the midfield that will be a good start. A]

Match-ups

Dunkley to De Goey -he has been their point of difference. Bursts out of stoppage. Good match up for Dunks given his strength

Daicos same as last time - team to be aware of him, don't corral shut him, i also think he likes to go on his left as a point of pride, but often shanks it.

I am not convinced they go Frampton on Andrews because Cox is back in. Having 2 blokes over 200cm and not that mobile is not a great recipe. I think they will assume Andrews goes to Cox and has his hands full. So a question of how much Andrews can get free. Given he managed to get some of the ball while playing on King, i think it's a no-brainer to play him on Cox. Gardiner should be okay on Mihocek who is under an injury cloud. Lester on Membrey who is not tall.

Pies normally don't tag. Surely they do soemthing different with clugga?

Weather bouncing around a bit in terms of forecast

My app now saying 80% areas with rain, and 1-5mm. So if we get unlucky it could be reasonably wet, but a chance we don't get much at all during the game - the hour by hour is out 2 days before and is usually quite accurate.

it is a shame it drops so much in temp from max of 21 friday to 15 saturday, but we are pretty hardy these days, haven't even seen charlie in long sleeves for a while!

Yes you would think if we at least break even in the midfield battle Harris will be able to take care of the Yank.

Like Dunkley on De Goey, I'll back Josh to get at least 2 HTB against The Tattooed One.

Remembering now as well - how differently we played against Collingwood at the g last time. We pressed up and often just punched the ball forward when they were trying to transition. Collingwood like to go all out on transition and keep the ball moving forward, so by getting it going the other way we often had the outnumber.

The problem with this is - we did so well that night but probably showed our tactics a bit. Usually you learn more from a loss. Dare i say it, do we need a plan B?!?!?!

We have become a very resolute team on the road.

But this will be something else - sounds like a full house, and while we will have our solid contingent, and most of the neutrals in the mcc / afl members, this will be the most opposition supporters i reckon we will ever have played in front of. Although the last mcg game the pies made all sorts of noise after that bobby hill goal in the last - and we just went whack whack.

Really want to get a good start given how crucial it has become to us. I wonder if the players themselves now believe if they start badly they are in for a bad one. Zorks alluded to it.

We'll have better representation than we did at the Pies home game.

It was exciting watching Charlie run from one suns player to another putting pressure. I think he found a new lease of energy doing the hard work rather than be stationary and demand the ball be kicked in front of him. It even looked like he wasn't so down on himself when he missed the goals.

I'm excited for Charlie, if he brings that level of energy from forward 50 - we'll be a tough matchup overall.

Yep

And even when he absolutely shanked one kick he wanted to make amends

I thought he should just about have been dropped after the last final. Exhibit 238 for why i would not make a good coach

I think Charlie became what a lot of us were calling for - back to his days as a pressure forward. His KPIs all about pressure and tackling. He is such a good field kick too - i wonder if we should play him higher? Takes the pressure off his kicking yips. That pass to Logan was delightful

Charlie is a confidence player more than most and you will never get the best out of him by dropping him. I’d say Fagan has put a lot of work into Charlie this year to help him along.

Sure was.

And it was not long after he completely buggered up a centring kick that resulted in a dangerous turnover.

Really pleased he regained his composure so quickly.

Showed to me that is head was in the right place......instead of getting down on himself like he often does.

Yep, Charlie was much improved, did a lot of gut running, also showed up a couple of times deep in our D50 to help out.

Energetic Charlie is a massive step up from down in the dumps Charlie, hopefully he, Cal, Zac, Ty and Kai can cause panic in the Pies D50.

Not much has been mentioned of our inaccuracy vs The suns, but it was glaring. Charlie, Berry, Bruce, Big O, and Wash all missed sitters that should’ve been automatic. Clean that up against the Pies, and suddenly we’re not just competing, we’re applying serious scoreboard pressure. That kind of polish could be the difference between a tight contest and a statement win.

Watching the replay of the last time we played and took a minute to see what we're missing with no Hippy. Always on the move up the field shifting their defence around

Watching Gallop in the second half, and he seems to have the confidence in his game to fill that role. Will be crucial.

I'm seeing people on twitter and Facebook ask for membership codes of people who aren't going, so they can buy a ticket, you need to be careful, I've heard of instances where that person has used the code to buy a GF ticket with that code the next week, highly recommend you don't give your code to anyone!
