Can’t turn heads if there’s none to turn.

I think we will cut our losses and focus on Bailey and co next year.
Depends if you think Oliver is a viable option or not I guess.

We've clearly identified midfield as being an issue, and we dont want to wait for Bailey. Personally, I think next year we'll slip to the bottom half of the 8 with what the top 2 are doing, the Suns if they land Petracca, the Dogs if they get a decent defender and Hawthorn continue to improve. Then there's Sydney who likely wont fail again

The Giants and Freo have stronger midfields but equally poor head coaches and wont contend IMO

I think Oliver is worth exploring, but I don’t think he comes here.

It puts pressure on Draper, Curtin, Taylor etc on stepping up but sometimes that’s not the worst thing. Two years ago people wanted petty due to our seeming lack of quality KPD.

Something better may emerge next year too.

You don't think anyone wants to come here though !!!

It’s very hard to get Victorians to come here, particularly quality established ones.

Ah Chee is still a good get and improves us. Assuming we don’t lose anyone, it’s still a better trade period than clubs like Carlton, Port, North, Essendon and others look like they will have.

Still not enough to get us to where we wanna be though

Is there any trade period that would bridge the gap to (if expected moves go through):
1. The premiers adding 2 new premier free agents and a top-5 pick mid
2. The losing grand finalist getting a dual Coleman FF to pair with their existing Coleman CHF
3. Losing prelim finalist adding an AA goal kicking mid

Hard not to see a big fall next year TBH.

I wouldnt say a BIG fall, but it does make things a lot harder.

Probably not, no.

There’s a belief that standing still means you’re moving backwards. Which in this case is probably true.

At least we are not losing players though.

I’d say this compares a lot to the 2016 trade period. Although even then we lost Lyons and got no one in. And we still made a GF the following year.

It's not as simple as that. Brisbane are adding two players who have lost a lot of time to injury and may contribute very little next year.

They've lost two genuine first 22 players, and Zorko and others are starting to age.

Brisbane had been great with injury management, but who knows what happens with Allen? They could be over paying for a player that obviously hasn't been worth it recently.

They won a flag with 2 kids as key forwards, as well as missing a starting 18 mid/wing, their starting CHB and one of the longer injury lists in the game.

They're gonna be fine

The unfortunate reality is we have failed to identify someone long range that wanted to come here.

NWM was clearly our priority.
Petracca played us.
There is no other play.

I'd now hope we pivot to bringing in a top 10 pick midfielder instead by trading our future first into this draft, and bringing contracts forward with the 1.2 million we obviously have spare to allow bigger offers to someone like Bailey next year.

Only testing results but I could see Oskar Taylor making a push for top 10. Definitely of the open pool at least.

Those types who excel in the back half of the year tend to get recruiters excited.

And how do we get into the top 3. That would cost us our first rounder and another good player
Doubt Sharp will go top 3 as west coast likely to take Duursma and CDT, then Tigers have the next two picks and after taking Lalor and Smillie last year I can see them passing as well.

You would think Essendon (5, 6 and likely 9) is a real shot though.

FWIW I wouldn’t be shocked if Mitch Marsh gets close to our pick, the way things are turning out.

Do we take olly greaves if he is at our first pick ?
Assuming he’s not a flight risk, yes you have to consider.

Doubt he gets there though. I’d imagine some vic clubs would even prefer him to Sharp given the local factor.

He’s not quick but he is a big boy and a genuine ball winner. Hits the scoreboard too.

Seen him at a mock draft at our 1st pick

Must admit Cody Curtin had more endurance than I expected... I think we should definitely be considering him with one of our picks in the 40s. Reckon high endurance talls that can chop out in ruck will become very valuable with the five-man bench.

Mock drafts are still very speculative, things will change quickly once we start hearing who likes who.

The recent rise of a few metro lads has me a bit more optimistic that someone could fall to our pick. Not sure that would be Greeves though. But you never know.

The lack of quality vic country lads has hurt the depth of this draft pool.

Are his results available?

Interesting that Greeves didn’t test.

I wasn’t aware of any injury so probably indicates his confidence levels on how he would go.

Same with Sharp.
