What's the negativity about Whan?
I suppose if he’s not considered in the top 50 in this draft… and (as many seem to claim on here) this draft is dogshit and any pick after 30 is basically worthless…. Then maybe he’s just not that good?

I’m sure we’ll pull this trigger on him anyway on the outside chance he turns into a serviceable AFL player. Nothing to lose really.

Can’t do that, can they? I thought they can’t trade for the same pick back from the same club they originally traded it too?

AFL tightened the rules after some other club (Sydney?) did it previously? Or have I dreamt all this?

I think previously someone tried to ‘hide’ it a bit more obviously.

Like let’s trade pick 20 for a F1 and then trade it back.

A 3rd club in the pick deal should mean that it’s treated as a separate deal, even if obvious that’s the plan.

It looked like he realised he shouldnt have said it on camera and then covered his arse by saying "he's already on Freo's list".

Pickering manages two project rucks in Oscar Steene and Harry Boyd who are SA lads, who are on AFL lists (Collingwood and Saints) and are behind number one rucks at their respective clubs.

With Reidy going, Brierty might be doing some due dilligence.

I can't fathom a reason why he'd be stopping in at Port Lincoln to see Duds when he'd seen him a week ago at the B&F.
Interesting post

1) We've assisted a deal to proceed.
2) We've not been the beneficiary of allowing that deal to proceed.

Please, forget values and what picks may become.

Would it have killed the deal if Brisbane or Eagles threw in F3s? I doubt it.

It feels like we only had eyes set on McVee for 23, maintaining a first and everything else got tossed.
I don't think anyone is disputing this (apart from maybe a few people who wanted to give significantly more for McVee).

The debrief about the trade should always be about whether the club got the best possible outcome. It's difficult to argue that they did and clearly gave up assets beyond what was required.

Yes there is unlikely to be long term pain as a result. But I also don't see the benefit. Being nice guys? Maybe.....but, no.

If we have no further moves of consequence, You can bet McVee's manager said WC are offering life changing money, we caved and I think it was the right decision.

Dogshite trade in isolation but in the greater context, if we go into preseason unchanged having lost our spiritual leaders in Fyfe and Walters, our on field leaders will 100% have the right to question whether the club is doing it's part to improve the list, thus opening the door for parasitic managers to turn their heads to greater opportunites/paydays.

Make no mistake, WC knows we are firmly in the pack of teams 2 to 10 chasing Brisbane. Their desire to see us not win a flag is as much a priority for them as improving their list.

We are on a tight rope now, we need to improve our bottom 7 every year and lose none of our first 16.

Everyone saying "McVee nominated us he wouldn't go to West Coast" know that is complete bullshit, sure he prefers us but dollars make sense and WC have no one to pay.

Pretty sure AFL has parameters that block trading back your own pick

Thanks to Sydney and west coast a few years back

Edit: this has been raised already
Three way then.

WC's gives 15 & F1, Gets Pick 19, Freo F1 + Brisbane's F1
Freo gives F1 & current pick 19, Gets WC + Brisbane's scraps
Brisbane's gives F1 & left over scraps + get pick 15

Death riding WC would be the best

In some ways yes but you'd expect Pick 1/Pick 19 etc from the start of the season and anything worse than that would be disappointing.

what do you mean? When we traded for Jesse Hogan we had pick 6 trade it got it back and traded it again

I just wandered into the [PLAYERCARD]Brandon Starcevich[/PLAYERCARD] trade thread... holy smokes Snuff'. Your fingers must be tired. 28,000+ posts since joining BF and 47% off them were posted in the last 24 hours. Epic. 😆

It only applies on draft night I'm pretty sure.

Sydney traded out a second round pick just after one of their players was bid on, matched it with later picks, then traded back in the second rounder with exactly the same club. Think the other club upgraded some other picks for their trouble. This was early days of the bidding system and the AFL shut down the possibility of it happening again pretty quick afterwards.

I'm sure you could find plenty of examples of picks being owned by the same club twice but on draft night that's been blocked.

Might also be back from the same club

I wonder if the rule applies if you trade out in trade period but then get it back on draft night

Feel like it's a yes but maybe not

Either way, the deal is done, I don't think there is some handshake deal to go with it as much as people want there to be

I shall not rest until every single person on BF admits the trade is garbagio

Yep, then was a naughty boy. Sank beers and missed his flight.
bloody hell man. there's a big difference between "he was out for games BECAUSE he was a naughty boy" and "he was out for games because his young friend died and then he missed extra games because after his friend died he had some beers and missed a flight"

dId you go to the Freo vs Sydney game after Cam McCarthy died? it was truly awful. the team should not have been playing. grief ****ing sucks

I'd argue he missed a game because of the funeral, but he misses games (plural) because of a less than desirable focus on his professionalism.

Which rips my confidence in him returning to preseason training in elite shape away.
