Rumour Speculation, Rumours, Lies Thread 2025 - Part 2

So they're amending the trade rules - but just for now.
Now you can trade more than 2 first rounders within a 5 year window. In the past you couldn't.
But it's just for now, and might change again next year.

😂
Fascinating how Hawthorn don't have enough capital to get the Merrett deal done, and how Geelong don't have enough capital to get the Curnow deal done.

And how it happens to coincide with a change in the rules that would help facilitate those 2 trades, in the middle of trade week. I mean what a wild, lucky and unlikely coincidence for those 2 clubs right!

Right?

Yeah, I think Sanders is over unless he requests a trade in the next couple days (which I don't see happening).

My next guess is a rumour comes out over the weekend about either Matt Roberts or Tom Powell. I.e. The Tier 3 targets.
Roberts would be a complete waste of time, he isn't even a midfielder and wouldn't offer anything off HB that we don't already have. I'd prefer for Cumming to play there than seek our Roberts.

Could the AFL be anymore amateur?

Like seriously.

AFL: Hey here are some rules that you need to plan for over the next 5 years. Make sure you keep this mind when considering list management. Really important rules

Also AFL: lol just kidding do what you want we don’t care
So it helps Collingwood?

Was Nick Daicos impacted by that too?

Geez I’m getting older!

I wasn’t born when he played for Sturt.
Me either! My dad told me a story about when he saw Wally May play for Sturt against Port at Adelaide oval I think. During the game May was in the centre with the Port ruckman and he pointed at the scoreboard. Everyone including the umps looked at the scoreboard and could not see what he was getting at but when they looked back at May the Port player was out cold on the ground and he had jogged away! Don't know how true that is but he had that reputation.

From memory Walls was older than most of us reckon it was 68 or 69, I was in Class 2B after shifting to Somerton Park from Pt Augusta.
I was there in the early part of the 70's. Sweet was in my matriculation English class after repeating a year and Gary Kernahan was a year younger. Had a scuffle with him while playing footy at lunchtime.

Not a rumour for a active list discussion from our club but I can say with high confidence that Alex Dodson from saints would like to be back in SA sometime if there was an option.

I've heard he is comfortable at the saints but not long term.

(My son was in under 18s sturt with him and still connected, so this isn't a loose rumour)

Right?
Not suspicious at all......

Honestly comments like this is rubbish - I get that people don’t like Nicks but please at least make fact base comments

  • if Nicks wasn’t strategic thinking, Curtin would just be a defender, the moved to the wing in 2025 was the first step to transition him as a midfielder
  • Curtin has been told in his exit meeting, pre-season is all about midfield and stoppages craft - he will move to the midfield
  • Rankine, has transitioned to the midfield, this was somewhat impacted by Rachelle injury
  • Rachelle will be a centre bounce - then push forward mid,!has been working on his centre bounce and forward 50!stoppage craft

Again, I get that people don’t like nicks, but let’s not go down that well on every issue when the evidence suggests otherwise

Ah Chee is a very good acquisition. It is disappointing that the potential mids haven’t worked out thus far, but you have options for growth for next year.

I think the main thing is the security blankets are nearly gone. No Smith. No Crouch. No Murphy. You have Laird (who you’d expect will go back to defence). And Tex up front. But the coaches go to options are limited now, there is no choice but to back in the talent.

Davis, Balme are not silly. And the coach knows his career is on the line next year. So let’s see 😆

I know we can only try

But I’d be ready for a bit of a fall down the ladder if we’re going with the same guys
The thing is we WILL get "organic growth" out of the kids. A second pre-season under Draper's belt, a third under Curtin's. We'll have Rachele back and Rankine... these things will make a difference.

You reckon they're going to accept a future second? I doubt they will.

I don't think there is much difference in value between our first this year and our 2nd next year. Next year the draft pool is better and then is a chance we drop a first spots on the ladder.

Surely the saints need some more picks after buying enough for an emergency bunker.

Right?
And in the very same week Geelong are found to have paid players outside the cap via 3rd party deals and not only do they not get the crows level of punishment, they get the most paltry fine of which more than half is suspended. Its tin foil hat stuff I know

They could use Soldo from Port more than a young Ruck (who will not make a key forward)

What saints want with Alex isn't aligned to what he wants.

Absolutely. After a midfielder, a developing ruck is our biggest need. ROB isn’t great… but imagine he went down? That’s our season done.

Starting to think Draper wouldn’t have been a bad option especially with the rule changes…
