Pretty much as expected then, we asked some pipe dream questions to players who we couldn't convince to come, and will end up not substantially improving the list during the trade period, outside of Ah Chee
Trade week is a 2 way street though. We haven’t lost anyone but are bringing in a good player. Every other club would be happy with a net positive result, especially if they had 3 top 8 picks in their side who have huge improvement in them to come.

Personally I am becoming very impressed with Reid. This is a very good draft for an SA club to have some collateral in so I’m very glad we haven’t overpaid for a “shiny new toy” just to score points with the public.

That's my point. We've tried to improve the ruck position because it's a deficiency, failed, but then just kept the deficiency.

I guess we think O'Brien is better than the next available option

Not sure whether that's true, but it seems the market is either Rowan Marshall or depth rucks

Ah Chee is 28 and uncontracted. F2 is fair value.

Of course they don’t have the take it but it’s a little rich they’d not let a loyal servant go that helped them win 2 flags that is going to get a bump for their last ever contract when a fair value is on the table.

It’s also a club that has just benefited hugely from FA and single-handedly ruined the draft due to F/S and academies that have caused the AFL to change the rules.

I don’t blame any club trying to get the best deal, but there’s driving a hard bargain and then there’s entitlement.

They can’t in one breath say we’re not matching the contract Crows are offering whilst also saying you’re too valuable to let you go unless we get a kings ransom. They’ve chosen to let him leave by giving his money to Draper and Allen. It’s different for superstars that the clubs will match or increase the salary. But when you don’t value them enough to be the best contract, you should facilitate a fair trade.

There is a lot to play out in trade week so I’m sure it gets done around the mark but I can get why some are frustrated.

He's an uncontracted player, and has nominated a club. A future second is below his value, but most likely what the trade will end up being.

These kinds of trades always go one of two ways. Either both clubs shake hands very quickly and move onto other things, or else it drags out to the final day only to end up being roughly what was proposed on day one.

The Crows clearly don't have much else going on this trade period, so there is no need for us to blink early. We'll stick to our guns, wait until the final day, then likely throw in a steak knife or two as a sweetener at the end, and we'll all move on.

Reid on Gettable, sounds like we are done after Ah Chee.

Organic growth, used the bullshit fatigue excuse. Good that the club has found their excuse and all are on board.

Well whose responsibility is it to rotate the squad? Joke of a club

Wouldn’t it be Burgess’ job to advise the coaching group? Problem is that he’s not a selector, our cult of continuity would result in us ignoring advice of fatigue. Add in the philosophy that’s there’s no such thing as a bad win and our selectors walked blindly into an oncoming train that many of us saw coming. But they didn’t.

The fact we went after Sam Draper, missed out, but then didn't address ruck stocks in the trade period is an interesting one.
I don’t think we did miss out. Once we decided to sign ROB long term there was no motivation to chase Draper on $1m over 5 years, so we diluted our official offer so he would choose Brisbane.

ROB playing so badly in the finals might well have made them regret their decision, but 6 weeks earlier they obviously decided that ROB would be the guy.

Definitely a net positive. I agree on trying to find another ruck as depth - we (WCE) are looking also, but not having a great deal of luck.

You haven’t lost anyone of note (and have made some appropriate list changes) and Ah Chee will be a good acquisition.

Sounds like Bailey is not in a hurry to extend at Brisbane just now, so he will be a big one to target for next year.

My issue with this is that it’s seeming as though the top 4-5 SA kids by the time our pick gets to us though.

If we miss out on an elite mid this trade period, then so be it, but if we’re not attempting to move everything to get one of these (Sharp, Cumming, Marsh) type, then what’s the point of having 16?

Pity for Port that Durdin struggled at a team desperate for decent small forwards.

And we very likely aren't ever getting Will Day, certainly not this year.
My recollection was when we approached Will Day a few years back he was that put off by our approach attitude that it sounded like we would be the last club he would ever consider going to.

Phillipou and Latrelle Pickett could both be really good as well, and should be available. Cumming could also be gettable if we are willing to trade up a few spots.

Jeff Dahlitz is also very intriguing, half back with elite pace and kick. Definitely a need for us with Smith gone and Laird and Milera aging.
