2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

Ross Lyon is too busy this time of the year, he has to put in the drop in pitch for the start of the cricket season down at Seaford and Moorabbin, do the office stocktake and update the membership database.

More portfolios than Scott Morrison had

I just don't think Butters will come our way. I am pretty sure he'll go to the Bulldogs.

If we don't get Curnow this year (or next year), I think we should have a crack at Sam Walsh.
While I agree we should have a crack at Walsh, the same problem is going to be draft picks to satisfy the Blues.

Stuff this trade period, let's hit the draft and pick up some more Connor O'Sullivan's. Curnows a has been. Marshall's old.
Have been thinking this lately. We are getting very excited about an aging ruck and a guy who seems surplus to requirements and has been underwhelming in recent times.
Throw in a couple of midfield additions (Bruhn, Worpel) that are probably just honest toilers at best.
Not a lot to be worked up about, but better than nothing I guess.

I wonder if Tanner would benefit from a fresh start away from Geelong

That would be a question only TB could answer

But with the off field issues still hanging around at the moment with the formal process to end this current chapter yet to occur, it's probably a bit hard to make any move - if the charges had been officially withdrawn as has been alluded to happening, then it may have presented that as an option if it interested the player

It'll be a lot easier to satisfy them when he's out of contract. He'll be a RFA, they'll match and eventually have to accept our best offer.

It would be a bad look for force a RFA to the draft and of course they'll receive no compo in return. They'll absolutely have to trade him to us if he nominates us.

Matching will depend how bad their season goes - if they finish bottom 5 on the ladder, it's often better to take the compensation pick than to try and force a trade

Can’t see him contributing much to our setup going forward. Makes sense to try and leverage some value while it is there.
Danger has effectively taken his spot. A 35 yo battered midfielder/forward who cannot sustain what he does. Let’s not forget Ollie kicked 40 goals in each of his first two seasons and did his best to win the 2024 PF off his own boots

I think we have established that Curnow is not coming and Marshall is looking unlikely. I'd still like the idea of getting Elijah Holland. Can play, and would suit our team. If it doesn't work its not a disaster.

Also, as we are keeping Rhys, we need to delist and rookie him. I don't think he will get picked by another team.

How much does player preference come into it with say a contracted player in Curnow's situation?
FAs can obviously sign with the club of their choice.
There seems to be an assumption that Curnow would be happy to be traded to either Geelong or Sydney. But he would surely have a preference to get to one over the other. Does that become irrelevant to the negotiations? Is it effectively an auction between the clubs?

Bruhn is capable of being an A grader for sure. Hopefully, after losing a season with his 'finger' injury, he really wants to make up for lost time and comes back with a massive new lease on life and footy.
Then it will be upto Scott to ACTUALLY play him more than 60% game time.

Cats know how to get players to play to their strengths, so hopefully they can extract even more from Worpel also..

Didn’t have the tank for more than 60% game time.
We developed the tanks for Miers, Atkins etc, that would likely be exactly what TB would be working to grow this year if he could.

Worpel is one I’m confident we have at his best again for 2026. TB is a massive unknown as the impact of 2025 is impossible to predict.

I can understand Curnow one being very unlikely but Mackie yesterday on Trade Radio said they are still exploring ways to get RoMa to Geelong.
It's far from dead, i imagine Saints just want that F1 and we've been offering this year's first.

We may just have to suck it up and give it and back in that we can go again in 2026 with RoMa, Bruhn, Kolo and Worpel on board and playing.

We definitely don't need to be looking at a player like Holland's - they genuinely need to focus on getting shit together off field before a third home is even looked at

And bringing him in knowning the issues and it not working, would be seen as something of a disaster - it would be an unnecessary distraction

Let him get things sorted off field before even giving it a thought as to him taken up a list shot

Also - why does Rhys need to be added to the rookie list?

If you look at Instagram, you’ll see Curnow pop up in Bailey Smiths stories. I’ve heard Danger say he was going to see him in the off season. I’m guessing this trade was more about displaying an image of trying to help two senior players get a friend to the club and less about the actual trade. Three first round picks and MacKie says “that’s all we can do” and Carlton says “no thanks”…. This is about Mac saying to Danger and Smith “I’ve tried”

He’s lucky to be on our list, and is needed. He would have no issues with the GFC

He has signed a contract so won’t be a rookie

We dont need to give the future 1st which would be a silly risk. We make our best offer and if they wont take it we walk and move on and address the ruck in other ways.
