2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

We've shown how good we are at crapping on - over 10k posts in the old thread, and bet we give that number a good shake across the month of October and then into November as we head towards the draft

A couple of house keeping things to note:
- When we hear of confirmation of players officially nominating Geelong as their destination of choice for a trade or as an FA then we'll open individual threads on an as needs basis - until such time though, let's keep discussions in this thread

- We'll likely have visitors from opposition boards and that's ok as long as they toe the line of acceptable behaviour. There's some knowledgeable posters from outside the Geelong board that can offer some good insight into happenings around the League, especially when it comes to potential trade situations involving the team they're closest to

- We'll also likely continue to keep getting "In The Know' comments between now, then and whenever; as thread tagged, this is a rumours thread so please believe as much or as little as you wish to from the "In The Know" posters

Anything else of note we'll edit this post to add

Otherwise, let's keep the talk and fun times going

A polite warning - let's continue to be mindful that the suppression order is still in place and the charges haven't yet officially been dropped

Happy for discussion in relation to the players spot on our list & how they fit within our team, but asking us all to be careful around the external situation until things are official

Is there any way that we will
Keep Stevens or is he guaranteed to be leaving. Bit annoyed we’ve had two guys with the same surname and different spelling both being big bodied mids leave the club in a matter of a few years.

Anyone out there who know how to put mass on quickly for Knevitt, we really need that X factor in the midfield!

I wouldn't be surprised if hes offered 1 year but also not surprised if traded/delisted. His lack of ability on the spread doesnt suit a chris Scott game plan. They are more likely to prefer guys like worpel and TB (when hes back) and even Clark (once he builds up his body) in the midfield before him.

Knevitt is different because of his height and running ability he could play other roles forward or back which they may look at with blitz close to retirement. That said next year is make or break for him.

The Bruhn news today might be what stamps big George's papers unfortunately, or at least one of him and Clohesy.

That'll be Bruhn, Worpel, Atkins, Clark, and Knevitt all fighting for 2-3 spots in the midfield as the contested/defensive type, and they can all run better than George, and that's what Scott will prioritise.

That's before you even get into Mullin, Martin, and Bowes, who play different roles, but similarly pad out the bottom 6.

I do hope he gets another shot though. He's a great kid.

He's a good mark around the ground

He played his best game last years vs WB then dropped like an old girlfriend.

Missing a year of footy can't be a good thing.

No, but it's not like George is being prioritised anyway.

Bruhn's news might not be the root cause, but it might be the final nail in the coffin if they're looking at moving forward without Stevens'.

In another year, I reckon he stays - but we're so tight for list spots right now that he might be the man left without a chair.

Hes an ok mark but hes slow as treacle and that limits where you can play him. At least worpel can transition run.
I do think he could make it at afl level but probably not a great fit for our gameplan-needs another club i think (but id love to see him retained).

Agree on all that. I think just that he doesn't suit Scott's game plan.
Obviously some of this depends on list spots and whether marshall and curnow etc come but I think Stevens is in trouble and I think clohesy Wiltshire and ivisic all are too.

This evening’s news means we now have a solid five mid rotations - Smith, Holmes, Atkins, Worpel and TB. With a couple of others like Mannagh and Bowes able to rotate though.

Hopefully add Marshall too and things are looking pretty positive.

Miers and Dempsey too who look set to spend a bit more time around the ball, and add a touch of class to that group.

Miers - Smith - Dempsey
Marshall - Holmes - Worpel

I/C: Atkins, Bruhn

It's not Brisbane's group, but we've improved it every year for 3 years now.

That's all you can ask for from the club. A generational father son or a player like Butters don't come around often, and you still have to find a way to get them too.

What will the ruck situation be like next year? Stanley signed for a year? but if we don't get Marshall or Conway's body doesn't get right i cant see blitz rucking all year

Gee all those people who posted how is his finger under every Mitch Cleary post for last 6-months must feel like even bigger losers than they actually are tonight.
That requires self-awareness.

I'm regards to Bruhn, if the off field stuff is finalised sooner than later (like this week), could anyone see a situation where he asks for trade and looks to make a fresh start somewhere new?

I know there's no trade value there, but something where he may look to move on from the past 12 months?

I wouldn't think so, he is a local lad and without knowing any details, I'm sure the club stuck by him and supported him as best as they were able given the circumstances. I actually think having TB back in the side and the addition of Worpel might really propel our midfield, allowing Smith and Holmes to play a more outside type game

I wouldn’t have thought so mate. I reckon the cats would have looked after him as best they could. He’s probably greatful for they.

I can near guarantee they have been across the whole thing the whole time. They backed him in that he did nothing wrong.

Highly doubt any club would look to go near that entire situation.

He's honestly probably better off staying. Local lad so he'll probably have the most ideal support system here.

Fair call that

Seems to have formed a brotherhood of sorts with GAJ, Baz, and Dempsey.

Smith even got into trouble a couple of times for posting about it this year during the gag order, and we know he's close with Ollie, Jhye, Toby, Jezza and the Falcon/regional guys.

Crazier things have happened, but I highly doubt that he would leave, and even more so that there would be much of a market for him.

If he can put it all behind him and play some good footy, it might be a watch in a year or two tho.
