2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

Why not AFL?? Will be his fourth year in the system, he was drafted as an inside mid, that is his role.
Because if he is playing in the middle... our team is worse.

Take away his draft number credibility, and he basically is a Clohesy/Stevens... and none of us want to see them in our best team midfield next year.

Clark is still a long way off not being a liability imo.

After doing well enough in training to come from the clouds to be picked and then play so well in the prelim it would be immensely disappointing to see Clark back in the VFL next year.

It would be Disappointing and very unlikely. Maybe if we were at absolute full health he could be tight but how often does that happen? And that is not even allowing for his likely improved position in the squad after preseason.

If rongdit gets through the main draft (which he should given his injury) we can then pre list him as a cat b rookie but our cat b rookie spots are full (clohesy and burke). So we would either have to elevate Ted to the main list or delist him unless we are making rongdit a cat a rookie.
The issue we will find trying to trade p40 into next year is no one wants later picks in this draft. Only a club needing bid points would do it (for example gc or Sydney if King and Carmichael get bid early) to say swap 40 for a future 3rd or something.

Was he really that good?
He got smashed in the backline!

It's possible. Hes unlikely to be starting midfield with bruhn and worpel there plus he doesnt really have the body size yet. I expect he finds a spot in the backline though.

This is what's so weird about it.

Clark should be better next year. Bruhn and Worpel come in.

That makes it harder for Clark to get midfield time. It also gives us the option of shifting Atkins or Mullin back more.

And we're thinking of keeping a guy about to turn 32 who managed 4 games this year despite Kolo being out all year?

At least with Guthrie there was the dream he might get fit and be a quality player. What's the upside to Bews? Unless something massively changes he'll be like our 10th picked defender.

It's probably about having a vfl leader as much as anything though. But I get your reasoning.

He has more talent than Clohesy and is way way quicker than turtle stevens.

This is a very pessimistic outlook on Clark

They are all different.
It's why I like Geelong's drafting. The game can change completely in the 3 or 4 years that it takes to develop.

You just draft a piece of the puzzle and find out later if it works.

Clark has awareness.
Clohesy will run through a brick wall.
Stevens can extract.

Right now it looks like they all won't make it. But those are the chances you take as the team plan evolves.

I am surprised we kept Bews because I just don't see him getting games next year, the glass break moment was the GF which would have been a risk bringing him in for it but then again when else would you bring him in?

Will we use him against the Hawks on Watson? Or Lions next year on Cameron?

Would think we are better off looking for a pacey, hard tackling 18 year old we can turn into a lockdown defender instead of Bews for next year.

Not that I am against depth or security, more that I can't see any games we play next year where the coaches bring him in unless we have serious defensive injuries.

The one's I hope that slide to us are.

Noah Hibbins Hargrave
- An attacking midfielder/ forward in a [PLAYERCARD]Toby Greene[/PLAYERCARD] type way, is a genuine game winner and was rated top 10 by some earlier in the year. Has had games of 5-6 goals and games with 30 possesions plus on big stages at different times. A real possibility to slide to us.

Mitch Marsh
Should be gone by our pick but if some how he does slip, could be a 300-400 goal player for the club, reminds me of a Gunston and does everything with ease and precision, leads to the right places and is so clean with disposal and touch.
More than likely gone but because of his size 192-193 he might be the Logan Morris of the draft that is overlooked because of his in between height.

I haven't watched a lot of footage this year but NHH footage looked alright to me

It’s only been reported that Jed has been offered one year, not that he’s signed (yet).

It will almost certainly be his last contract, so for all we know he’s checking out if he could get two years and more game time elsewhere.

FWIW he would instantly improve a side like North Melbourne, and probably play 20+ games a year too.

Zac Bailey's the key for Brisbane; when he's on, they're unbeatable. Just look at his quarter-final game compared to the grand final.

I'd offer him the bank to be honest.

Different players. We need ball winners at the coalface. Butters is proven in that area, whereas Bailey is more an outside player.

You'd love both, but Zak fills the gaping void we have in the midfield much better.

NHH is a good choice

But we already have about 3 guys in VFL who fit the third tall role that adding Marsh (and he won't be available anyway) would just defeat the purpose of it all.

Polkinghorne will be coming through as that player already, we don't need to bring another forward of that ilk in when we are already getting Mellor through the draft who while is 185cm tall again can fit that medium tall role if required along with Polkinghorne who is 190cm but can jump out of the gym with his athletic ability.

All of that is before even mentioning OHenry is sitting there not playing because Danger is in that 3rd tall role.
SO why add another like that?

We need a midfielder or a defender. I understand taking best player available but adding another forward just makes no sense. We are stacked for forwards. There's a lot of midfielders who will go in the 19-20's range. We should be after them.

Zero Hanger's recent Mock Draft had us taking 182cm Eastern Ranges defender Oskar Taylor.
Left footer, speedy, calm and collected with ball in hand.

Here are some highlights

Haven’t paid much attention to this years crop but have just had a look at Josh Lindsay.

Boy does he just look like a lock to be an elite distributor for many years.

Wonder if a club will go really early on him.

Can’t see him being any risk at all to be a bust and you’d love the ball in his hands.

Can’t see him sliding to us… too good.

Bailey is a very very good footballer. How does he go with a tag, coz that’s what the stars like Butters have to carry around most weeks.

Maybe too similar to Mellor? Perhaps.
If so i don't think they'll double up.

The funniest thing with the Bews news is that even with Mackie saying prior to the prelim that both Stanley & Knevitt had signed extension, I had people arguing that it wasn't official as there had been no announcement from the club (like the media release email) - like I'm not sure what those folk think that Mackie does, but I take his word as being a pretty official announcement

But we've had Clearly say Bews has been offered a 1-year deal and those same folk are happy to take that as official news he's signed on

I do not think we should set the bar to high for Bruhn next year. Hopefuly he gets back and goes no from where he was but he has had 12 months out. Depending where his headspace was his fitness base may have fallen a long way. Add onto that what he may have to deal with from opposition supporters. It may take him 12 months to work his way back.

He completed pre-season training through to February, including playing in our scratch match early Feb and was then back training with the main squad in early May

So while he didn't play this past season, he really was only away from training for no more than 3 months and would expect that he's been able to maintain a certain level of fitness during this period
