2025 AFL Draft and Trade Dates:

Fri Oct 3 - Fri Oct 10: 2025 Free Agency Period
Mon Oct 6 - Wed Oct 15: 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period
Wed Nov 19 - Thu Nov 20: 2025 Telstra AFL Draft

I don't think that's quite right. Unless I've missed something I'm pretty sure it's:

2 senior list spots free (Duncan, Guthrie, KMF and Stevens out with Worpel and Mullin in).

2 cat A rookie list spots free but committed to selecting Stevens and KMF (Ivisic and Retschko out)

2 Cat B rookie spots free (Mullin and Clohesy)

So tactically … two picks in the national …. and two cat B players ? Perhaps one for a nga player and another experiment , usa or Irish etc?

Zero Hanger's recent Mock Draft had us taking 182cm Eastern Ranges defender Oskar Taylor.
Left footer, speedy, calm and collected with ball in hand.

Here are some highlights

We could certainly do with this type of player. A highly skilled back flanker/wingman type who knows how to find the ball and distribute it well.

West Coast gave Jones 5 years and 59 games. They saw plenty in him but ultimately he wasn't good enough. I'd bet good money Clohesy does no better than him.

He's a great trier and gives his absolute all. But ultimately he's very limited with his lack of skills with the ball and lack of athleticism.
This…. Sadly a lot of football is god given, and Clohesy and stevens don’t have it

A stated much earlier, I have heard from two recruiters associated with two separate clubs. I have significant trust with one of those, the other is known through a mate.

Both stated Holmes is not on their radar. Lucky to get a rookie position. Has some weaknesses around kicking, mainly spraying it forward without looking. Relates to average decision making. Is athletic and has speed, however, skills around use of the ball is what they were concerned with.

So if we are keen I’d say our last pick we intend to use could be used. If interested of course
And if Stephen Wells was your mate, he'd be saying exactly the same thing if he was intending to select Hunter, unless he was double-bluffing you. Recruiters will never let you know who they really fancy if they are decent recruiters.

If the knock is decision making skills and kicking skills, these things can be improved and worked on.

Speed, athleticism, power, explosion are genetics, kicking and decision making arent.

It seems criminal that someone with a booming left foot like KMF can't make it.
The Hawks have a fetish for booming left kicks. I think our delistings will inject some chaos as others’ draft plans are revised

There’s some information asymmetry at play. We’re seeing value in the ND/RD while popular opinion doesn’t. We appear prepared to risk losing Stevens/KMF

Not really. We're going to take 2 picks in the draft and 1 in the rookie draft at this rate.

It seems like it's Wiltshire and Bews we rate over the current draft and guys like Stevens and KMF.

Someone just told me we’ve been speaking to the delisted American (with regards to a backup Ruckman role).

Could that be true ?
I think it makes a lot of sense given we missed out on Marshall, and Nathan Buckley is now part of the coaching panel. Buckley would know him as well as anyone.

Still gross though.

Don’t mind it if he only comes in when Stanley needs a rest or injured to ruck a full game. There are far worse options out there and I dare say at 210cm he will probably win a lot of hitout battles. Something our midfield has rarely seen, can also mark ok as a down the line option.

He is 35, but Stanley is 36… we could do worsw

The Geelong Cats can announce defender [PLAYERCARD]Jed Bews[/PLAYERCARD], forward Oli Wiltshire and ruck Joe Pike have all signed one-year contract extensions, committing to the Club for 2026.

The main board thread about the sacking of the Blues mascot has started to degenerate into a debate on the Middle East.

Can a discussion of the retaining of Bews match it for recycling the same debate?

I wonder what makes people think Jhye Clark is looking any different to a Will Phillips, Ben Hobbs type.

Rated tough junior inside mids with very little tricks.
Because he is ours…and I am ok with that.

If I don’t really know I will say our 50/50s look promising and oppositions look a bust!

I do think (and have seen it first hand) there are kids who dominate junior because they start earlier and are more “professional” at a young age (often fully developed even if small it doesn’t matter as they are stronger)…and then they get more opportunity and more confidence (ie. can make mistakes without consequence and so try more things that look good)…

Will and Ben (I am ignoring Clark due to my first two sentences!) fit into that bill for sure as does Trent Bianco. All played State, Will and Trent were Captain of Chargers and Ben of Vic Country

Of course at AFL level they usually get caught in terms of professionalism and sometimes frankly just body development (which then means their smallness and lack of athleticism is exposed)

Not sure the rationale behind keeping him to be honest.
I think purely given he has something athletic traits (that the others dont) and untapped potential. I am not convinced that he will develop but I can see why they gave it one more shot just in case?

To be fair there were a lot on this forum after Dempsey’s first year who didn’t see the rationale of giving him a second year - indeed some were absolutely convinced he would not make it (even after year 2!). Not saying all Ollie’s are alike but they must see something that we can’t in terms of possibilities
