Which AFL teams do Fitzroy fans support?

If I were a Fitzroy supporter, I definitely wouldn't be supporting Brisbane, essentially Brisbane co-opted Fitzroy's branding.

So who should Fitzroy supporters support, if they wish to continue to follow a side in the AFL?
It's jarring they pretend to have the same history as Fitzroy when they're just a continuation of The Bears.

Which other AFL club would continue to commemorate and celebrate Fitzroy's VFL-AFL history in the current AFL?

Honestly, I think I've tried to forge a connection with most other clubs over the years, including Brisbane. Unfortunately for me, I just have never been able to do it. The closest I've come is with teams that represent a geographic area of significance for me (Carlton, Melbourne) , are connected to someone I know (my partner is a Geelong supporter, Ron Alexander was connected to Fremantle and my family is originally from there) or need help in the way that we needed it (North, Western Bulldogs). However, they just don't have that intagible quality that Fitzroy had, for me as a kid.

Perhaps I should just call it quits, take out a Fitzroy membership and let the AFL go get f....d

I'm saying from my perspective I would feel betrayed if my team essentially folded and the branding went to another team. I would either support a different team probably from the same town or a new but different branded team or just stop following AFL out of protest like a lot of Fitzroy supporters did.

Why does a different AFL club have to commemorate another AFL club? That doesn't make sense. That's like saying the Adelaide Crows should commemorate Hawthorn if they fold.

That's your choice to make.

A great many Fitzroy supporters decided they wanted to follow a team in the AFL that had some of their original club's identity, (and commemorated their original club's history) rather than follow a club that they had barracked against all their lives and had nothing of the identity of their original side. I know I'll take some pleasure watching Brisbane run out in a Fitzroy jumper for an AFL match in 2026.

That's your choice to make. Many Fitzroy supporters made a decision to support a team with vestiges of a Fitzroy identity. That's their choice to make

They don't. Hence I and many other Fitzroy supporters don't support them.

If they want former Hawthorn supporters to follow them, maybe they should. Adelaide offered to merge with Fitzroy in 1996. It was clear why they did so.

Interesting!

They could have even renamed themselves to Fitzroy Crows

That would've been a very interesting scenario had Fitzroy merged with the Adelaide Crows, Terry.
Roylion's mention of the 1996 merger offer triggered my subconscious about the Fitzroy Lions' massive win (516-0) over the Elizabeth Eagles in the Adelaide amateur competition last year.

I respect those Fitzroy supporters who have got onboard with the Brisbane Lions, because the "Brions" have provided them with plenty of joy and five premierships in the 29 years the merger has been in operation.
Although I have Brisbane listed as my AFL team in my BigFooty profile, I have no emotional attachment to the merged entity; my choice was purely based on having not felt the urge to support another AFL club.
I enjoy watching AFL games as a detached supporter, with my footy passion directed towards my beloved East Perth Royals in the WAFL.
I'm proud to be a member of the Fitzroy Reds (the club, through the generous offices of Fitzroy stalwart Bill Atherton, has kindly allowed me to advertise my book on the club website) but, with my strong WAFL interest, I haven't been to Melbourne for many years, thus I'm yet to see the Reds live.
That said, I enjoy having dual membership of the Royboys and the Royals.
