Dougie can have #10 in 2027.
Wouldn't be surprised if this was the intention. Not like we've brought anybody into the club this year who's really worthy of the #10. Saving it for Dougie.

Seriously though, this is the sort of self-mythologising I laugh at the crows for.

We retire his number, we name an award (bogus granted) after him the minute he leaves.

Meanwhile he jumps on board a Victorian club faster than a speeding bullet.
When did that BS happen??

I think they said they wouldn't be handing out the 10 for 2026 when they announced the new number allocations.

There was no time frame put on it but definitely not 2026.

I didn't read the non-allocation of 10 as a permanent thing. It sounded like it was for the year and if an established player had put up their hand for it, I suspect it would have been allocated.
This, except I think we're deliberately holding it back for Dougie.

Dont mind a number having a rest for a year after a 300+ gamer retires. Thats where it should end though. Give another player the respect of having it.

I wouldn’t have cared if we had a break from the number for a year or so, however the guy literally signed with Carlton within a month or two of the season ending. Just doesn’t sit right.

I have read this sentiment a few times now .... I really dont know why people get their panties in a twist over this!! Did you want him to remain in Adelaide? Take on a role at Port maybe?

NO!! Just like Ebert, who has Port Adelaide blood pumping through his veins, heading off to a Vic club to further his footy career and aspirations, Boak needs to do the same.

Plus he was always going to go back to play for his junior Geelong side - He has stated this for many years. So does he not do anything for work while residing there? Oh, heaven forbid he offend the dear old Port Adelaide supporters!

A lot of ex players move onto jobs with other clubs like Brad Ebert done.
It’s no big deal, you have to remember there’s a lot of dislike for Boak on this forum so anything he does is going to be met with negative comments.

.... and if he picked up a role at Port straight after retiring people would be rambling about another internal appointment.

Couldn’t care less he has gone for another job. However it’s not like the guy is a multi premiership winning captain, that is a great of the game. Retiring the number of a 300+ gamer because he was a “good bloke” is not what we should be doing. Highlighted further by him just departing back to Melbourne the first moment he got the chance.

No problem with him going elsewhere, didn't want him at Port post playing career. The award is more an inditement on there's still issues with getting the club ruthless, despite Josh taking over. I'm sure it was a Koch or Bitcho directive. I doubt Carr or Rutten's hands are across this stupidity.

WTF? It's just some BS token "award", there's probably a few of them given out internally and are likely to be largely player driven/voted.

Usually I’d agree but I doubt many people would have had an issue with him being a development coach/mentor for young players to help fast track them into understanding what is required to be an AFL player.
