Watched a heap of him throughout the year.

My thoughts:

A "cake player". Set him a defensive task, and he will get it done. Set him a distributor role, and will not let you down. Is a safe pick that can see him slotting into a defensive position and playing 200 games. Unlikely to be on the highlights reel by breaking lines, or lasering a 50m pass to a teammate but can be trusted to take the option.

Not the most athletic player or have eye catching skills but will be that 10-15 type set and forget player in your line up.

The main ceiling raiser is his leadership and potential scope for mid development.

With swans hat on, reminds me of Nick Smith/defensive only Mills. Some of you may say "who the **** is Nick Smith?", but played 211 games for us and was probably the most trusted to do his job.
If he ends up half the player Smoosh was we would have made out like bandits. Thanks for the insight.

Can't find any of his Draft Combine results, did he have any decent results there? How was his 20M sprint etc if anyone can find?

Loved Smith as a player. Reliable as hell, instrumental in the Swans success through the 20-tens / teens and a thoroughly deserved AA.

Ironically, we'd love a Nick Smith right now. Hopefully Budarick can be one.

Didn’t do a lot of research on him leading up to the draft due to him being club tied, but watched as much vision as I could find tonight.

Does appear to be a very solid, dependable type. Finds a lot of ball, not as classy as a Lindsay by foot but still a very good kick. Most of all I like his defensive accountability.

Think he has a high floor rather than a huge ceiling, but looks to be a very reliable player.

Have brought three young, defensively sound half backs into the club in the past 6 months, in Sellwood, Budarick and now Carmichael. Clearly the club identified it as an area of weakness and I would agree.

I wonder if the club see Jaques playing on a wing long term, as he was originally drafted as an intercepting half back, before playing a more offensive wing role for Footscray this year.

Welcome to the Kennel, Mike ❤️🤍💙

Need to say that to the flog on the first page who has written him off already.
perplexes me that people watch a couple of clips and determine someone doesn’t have a high ceiling without considering the amount of development that can occur in an elite environment. Anyway, just my opinion.

Sounds like what we already have in Luke Clearly and Michael Sellwood?

Not many similarities with those two, besides being noted as a half backer.

I kept seeing Steele Sidebottom in the highlights I watched last night. Wouldn’t be surprised if we picked him as a long term hybrid type prospect that can play in multiple positions.

Looks a smart player who assesses the play quickly. His composure stood out also. Saying that, it was only 6min of football out of the 1000’s he’s played.

Dale was recruited as a skinny high half forward and is now a 2 x AA

This kids shown he can defend find the footy and has a cannon of a leg

If no one else wants him I claim him as my own kid will play 15+ games this year and with him and Buderick in our backline will be much better

Haven't got his sprint but he certainly doesn’t rely on speed in game rather poise and evasion, speed definitely isn't a strength especially at his position.
I believe he is average/ above average in all categories.
