Our next pick is currently 39. That could well stay as is or move back 1 spot. Depends on bids. Small chance if a very early bid on Jack Ison could absorb best part of two picks which could move us up to 38. I’ll stick with 40.

The following 15 names are on the board (might have missed a couple including a ruckman with a complex surname):

Blake Thredgold
Jack Ison (Carlton NGA)
Tylah Williams (WCE NGA)
Max King (Sydney NGA)
Liam Hetherton
Archie Ludowyke
Louis Emmett
Oliver Greaves
Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves
Jevan Phillipou
Max Kondogiannis
Zac McCarthy (Collingwood NGA)
Fred Rodrigues
Taylor Byrne
Jack Dalton

Someone will pull out a name they want early like potentially Kickett for Richmond.

I can’t see us trading up. We allowed Brisbane to have our 45 with 47 coming back. I also felt we should have got ourselves a Future pick from Brisbane in that big trade (that would have given us an opportunity to trade up). It seems Walls is happy to sit and select someone they feel will get through.

Thinking those NGA bids all come before our pick and will be easily matched mostly also using picks before ours.

Leon Kickett and a few surprised names will be in the mix.

Think we can draw a line through the rucks.

Ison cant absorb Carlton's two picks before us. If North bids on him first up, that equals 504.9 points to match and Carlton's 28 is 505 points.

I'm hoping North bid on Collingwood's NGA. That would absorb their 32+37 and they'd get 43 back, so we'd move up a spot.

The Saints have also been linked to Oakleigh Chargers winger Sam Allan — whose 2025 campaign was ruined by an ACL rupture — and East Fremantle’s Ollie McManus – the son of Dockers great Shaun McManus.

The Dockers, who didn’t nominate McManus under the father-son rule, have been linked to a couple of left-foot midfielders with their second pick in Sandringham Dragons’ Jack Dalton and North Adelaide’s Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier, as well as small forward Willis Reidy. Freo will have first call NGA duo Toby Whan and Ryda Luka, but both could slide through to the rookie draft.

I think when using multiple picks to match a bid there is some residual / surplus points and they get that equivalent pick which could 51 for example and then that moves forward after other bids are matched with multiple picks.

Basically WCE list manager failed general maths at high school and his calculations were out. Paying a F2 to move 1 spot. In reality Hawks were comfortable or even preferred Nairn at their pick so got themselves a free F2. WCE needed to bid a pick or two higher with the back-to-back bids.
i just want to know why the graphic wasn't show for what picks are required to bid

I mean, you dont think the fact last night Walls literally said "We’ve still got a couple of players on our list we rate quite highly so we’ll see overnight and in the morning if there’s anything we can do with some other clubs to get up a fraction higher"
..might be a little more relevant than our pick trades 6 weeks ago? It seems to me that his first preference is to see if they can trade up. Unless you think he's just spouting hogwash for the fun of it, or is some master of diversion....

Won’t matter , I fully expect Jake Rodger’s and potentially another of their highly rated youngsters/depth players to want out so they ll load up with 1sts/2nds again
It really is stupid putting so much talent into one team (or maybe 4). It doesn't develop properly anyway and the kids actually end up with worse careers unless they leave or they are one of the absolute guns. Look at the talent that fell out of GC and GWS in the early days. It will just happen again with the Northern teams as they can't play them all and keep them happy.

I hope they are just clogging the team up rather than building an environment to succeed. I also hope our picks are generational compared to their highly rated ones.

Absolutely agree .

But it’s EXACTLY what the AFL is hoping for - and just like GWS ,GC*will just continue to flip said 1st rounders for more on going ones into the future .

giving GC , like GWS at that stage ,a basic “10 yr window “ of competitive teams …
and by that I mean premiership competitive!!

They’ve invested an absolute shetload in these new northern teams .
They just “have to” make them successful, for brand AFL.

*mentioned in the other thread GC are actually in a an even better position than GWS were due to most of their young first round talent actually being locals.

- means they probably hang on to more of them just that bit longer … which could end up making all the difference between GWS only having 1 GF and no flag to show for their massive leg up period and GC potentially snaring 1/2+ flags during theirs.

That's fine though, losing developed talent to get talent in generally isn't a recipe for a premiership

I think the 45>47 swap from trade week is relevant. Brisbane passed it onto Collingwood and that will prob get absorbed as part of bid on Zac McCarthy.

If we end up swapping our F3 to move up two spots. I will be scratching my head.

how the hell did GC not go into a defecit with the million matches they did? Also find it funny how there was no graphic showing what the pics would cost to match like im previous years
Has anyone managed to map out how GC managed to match the 4 first round bids? If so, please share.

I know they started with a couple of picks in the teens and swapped out some future picks, but bloody hell, they ended up with 4 first rounders including 2 and 5.

There must have been an awful lot of loose change down the back of the couch!

Shout out to everyone who picked Adam Sweid in the poll after the fact. You're the real heroes of the night 👍
A real mod would’ve closed the poll before the pick soooo 💄
