💯.

Everybody knows how hard toto has been chasing max. Max may eventually want a fresh change , so max to Mercedes could happen.

Apparently Aston martin are interested in leclerc, so if Ferrari fail to deliver again, Oscar may have competition for AM seat if they do indeed have a competitive car.

Next year's driver carousel will be incredible.
Think we may not have to wait the full 12 -18 months. Most teams hirearchies are usually set by mid season, so we should have a good idea where each team stands by the middle of next year.

No doubt there will be way more movement next year. It's partly (apart from sponsorship) why yuki is hanging around as he knows seats will open up as bottas did this year. Lewis probably retires, Lawson and colapinto will get punted surely and Alfonso probably retires too. Toto clearly wants max and only signing George for 1 year shows that. I think max is more likely to stay now mekies is in charge but max is also ruthless. All it takes is one of Charles max or George to move to another team (sainz will also be stalking his way back to a car higher up the grid unless Williams keep improving) and a lot of dominoes could fall.

I think a lot of that is just being friends but Webber is not dumb. A) Alonso will retire and b) stroll will hang around long enough (thanks to dad) but be useless enough that piastri can beat him on track and be the clear no1. And newey is a genius. So the move makes sense for a variety of reasons if aston can become the 2nd or 3rd best car under the new regs. Time will tell.
The only issue with the new regs is that every aspect of it is brand new.

So if a team gets it seriously bad, it's not just one specific area of car performance they have to investigate, it's every single area.

Good chance the team that nails most of the engine, aero, chassis and power system designs next year , will have a Mercedes 2014 like era of dominance .

no chance max leaves. Red Bull are the only team that will let max race in gt3 during the season, do his sim racing stuff. Now with ford on board as well who have announced it will compete in the Hypercar division of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027, which Max has said he wants to compete in, its locked in.

Most teams would let max do that if it means they can sign him. Toto would give him that and 100 privileges.

This is all manufactured
This is an easy thing to say on the surface, but typically falls apart under interrogation like most conspiracy theories.

Who manufacturers it and how do they do it ?

If you think they tampered with Oscars car, don't you think the hundreds of engineers and race crew for Oscar would have something to say about that, let alone Oscar himself? Those kinds of things are not the kind of thing that you could keep quiet.

Yeah thats true. And thats the risk that some teams could excel or bomb out for years which is why if im Webber i tell him to quietly wait and assess in 12 months. You dont want to go to a team going down and ruin your career (DR was as fast as Oscar but this was the mistake he made twice). We will see who does it best after a year or two.

"Oscar perhaps on the wrong strategy"

Now where have I heard that before.

To think he even agreed to that, while live in the WDC fight...

Surely his best bet was to be on the same tires as Lando, back himself to make the lap 1 pass, and hope for a double stack disaster (or at least dictate the pace).

He did none of that, got hung out to dry, and handed booth the WDC to Lando, and second place to Max.

The final Turkey slap to the face was not pitting after leclerc pitted, just so Lando could keep a big gap over Charles.

If he's at Mclaren next year, they will walk all over him. AND he's clearly got the number 2 tag (and fair enough given his willingness to cop their shit non stop)

Pitting lando first was a joke but unsurprising.

Wouldn’t be anything as drastic as making it a lemon but subtle changes wouldn’t be hard to manufacture.

Why did Oscar complain of a lack of power and grip for those handful of races and we haven’t heard much of that since?

I think this talk of Oscar GTFO and finding a new team is premature. No one knows where teams will land next year. For now he's with undoubtedly the best team.

Sure Newey can design world championship cars, but how much of him now taking on a broader TP role will take away from his design role?

He made too many mistakes, that is the bottom line. Any crap about McLaren costing him is simply not true
Agreed. The unpaletable truth for Piastri fans to swallow is that he let slip a considerable advantage. Could some of the team's decisions have gone better? Sure, but let's not pretend it was smooth sailing for Norris either.

I think the monza swap really messed him up. I am certain his mental bandwidth was fully occupied by his growing distrust of the team.
^ That

Technically speaking , if toto was desperate for max ,he could still allow max to compete in the hypercar division with ford because the Mercedes don't have a car in that division.

It really depends how far toto is willing to go to accommodate max.

Of course they will but in reality next year is a holding year for Oscar until Webber can work out who the 2nd best car is under the new regs and who to move him to. We will have to be patient but hes good enough and will win one in the right team (it just wont be mclaren).

Why. If Oscar is clearly quicker than Lando, then he will win the championship, as team orders will not come into play.

It was a combination of
1. mental weakness and not being in that position before.
2. certain track profiles (I dont think it was much of this).
3. development of other cars in comparison to McLaren.
4. Norris ditching the "bottle merchant" mantle and lifting his pace.
5. Development of the McLaren car to win the constructors title. The best chance to win the constructors was to resolve Norris’ mid-year battles with the car.

Agree to disagree on this, no point dragging this thread down any further though.

The constructors title they wrapped up 2 thirds through the season?

Without a competent teammate for Max, nobody was catching McLaren for constructors.

Lando is more entrenched in that team and now he is 'champion' they will favour him more than before. Oscar can only be the no 2 there and if he wants to be no1 anywhere he has to move.

I think the whole "number one/number two" driver stuff is a tad overrated. It often is used to describe drivers that were constantly in support roles because they weren't as good as their teammate (i.e Bottas, Perez, Webber, Barrichello etc..).

A lot of people would have considered Rosberg a number two driver in 2016, and he won it. No reason why Piastri can't come back and beat Norris next year (whether it is a title contending car though is the bigger question mark). I think Piastri at his quickest is a very good match for Norris at his quickest.
