I can see Seeds argument. It's not the fictional sci-fi. It's there's zero stakes and emotional beat. Which what makes a true good story.

The monsters fully tearing up soldiers one shot but then against main character it'll stand and scream,then one of the characters will be able to fight one off with a pole. That is annoying but luckily the show still has enough charm that outweighs some of the nitpicks.

Just finished season 3.

I found the first half a bit of a struggle but the last 2 episodes of the season are the most I've enjoyed of the show so far and are some of the best episodes of a TV show that I've ever seen.

Stranger things has become a joke.

The good guys can not be killed.

Soldiers and no name characters constantly murdered at whim. But when main characters are in the exact same situation, they mostly just get pushed aside.

Its destroyed all the emotional investment in this show. Cos the showrunners have been protecting the actors wages at the expense of telling a good story. The end of season 5 was ridiculous. So many of the mains were in a seemingly unescapable position and then for some reason Veccna just cant be bothered to finish them or does seemingly finish one off but she just happens to go into a coma to keep her story going. And the only death was the non main character Eddie who goes kills himself when he wasnt even in jeopardy and it made no sense for him to do what he did. They are carrying this ridiculousness all the way to the end. Joyce charging at the demogorran and Vecna and no consequence. Yeah ok.

Whats worse is all the main characters seem to know they have this plot shield. A freaky monster is trying to kill them and they dont seem scared at all, in fact they are cracking jokes and fighting with each other.

Not even sure if I can finish this. Feel like Im being used. This is plain bad now.

The demogorgons not wrecking the main characters I thought was explained pretty well

Will connected to the hive mind, seeing through the demogorgon's eyes and having some level of influence even prior to realising he could just telekinesis them

Veccna yeah, probably should have just smoked Joyce but the villian not finishing off the heroes when they really could have isn't exactly an uncommon thing in entertainment, every James Bond and superhero movie in existence just off the top of my head lol

I see his argument (albeit i dont agree with it) but its also way too early to judge that IMO.

The show has killed off loved characters in previous seasons (albeit probably no one important) if it finishes and no one of note is dead then by all means say it has no stakes but pulling that card literally haflway through this season is premature.

Its also worth knowing that the lore of the world is these monsters are controlled by Vecna and he has a personal and known attachment to those with the "plot armour" perhaps there is a plan for them, perhaps hes evil villain monologuing but ultimately him pausing before ripping a mother or child apart but NOT pausing when its a military man shooting at said monster really isnt THAT unbelievable.

that's the conundrum. someone switches off early, how can they comment on something they didn't even watch? so they actually need to watch the whole thing to inform their opinion and it be valid, but should have turned it off already because they hated it.

It definately isnt a uncommon thing. For many james bond is also unwatchable cos of the same nonsense. But in the post game of thones streaming world we expect better now. We need to believe that any chacarscter can die so when they dont we properly ride the emotional wave.

It’s pretty common in story telling that main characters survive until the end of the story. Otherwise it wouldn’t be their story.

It’s pretty common in story telling that main characters survive until the end of the story. Otherwise it wouldn’t be their story.

They aren't going to kill off El or one of the four boys, but those that have died have been very much 3rd tier characters. Close enough for the characters to portray they worry about death but not close enough for viewers to really feel any of the main characters are at risk, until the finale (if even then).

If they'd killed one of the 2nd tier characters season 4 or the first half of season 5 they've dropped, you'd feel more things were really up for grabs. Those I'd classify as 2nd tier characters, that it'd have been made a lot more tense by one dying are Joyce, Hopper, Steve, Robin, Max, Nancy and Jonathan. All had enough screen time and importance to the story that their death would have had real meaning. You can't make a quantity for quality argument. It's like when you watched original Star Trek. No matter how many red shirts died, you never feared Kirk was at risk.

I really enjoyed the released eps as well, I'm 42 and we binged the last 3 eps in 1 night.

Currently arguing with the family about when to watch the next release as I'm planting my flag in the ground about boxing day before exclusively for watching cricket
