Brisbane traded their first before we could do the Dunkley deal with them, and Essendon traded their first before we could do the Stringer deal. At least Essendon used their first in trading for a player (Dev Smith), unlike Brisbane in 2022 and North this year - both of which were to downgrade their original pick into a split of lesser/future picks.

FORMER No.1 draft pick Kristie-Lee Weston-Turner's hopes of becoming a Roo remains in danger, given the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne are yet to agree upon a suitable trade.
Western-Turner has managed eight games in two seasons at the Kennel, but is hoping to land at Arden Street before the trade deadline.
Western Bulldogs list manager Dan Fisher said he is “not sure at this stage” that a deal will get done, meaning Western-Turner may need to go into the draft if she is to become a Roo.

Keeping pick 8 and getting Cann is a big win, and it seemed that Collingwood was only gonna let go of one of Cann and Allen, so it's nice to see us win that one.
Proud of the club for not rolling over on the Weston-Turner deal, late picks in this draft are essentially meaningless to us, and with North not providing the goods with futures, taking the moral high ground was the right call for me.
I know I've said it before, but Dan Fisher has been absolutely outstanding since becoming list manager last year. Nailed last year's draft, signed up the core youngsters long term, got Cann over the line without losing a first-rounder and didn't bow down on Weston-Turner.

I don’t know the first thing about the AFLW draft mechanisms. Is it almost guaranteed she ends up at North anyway like it is in AFL?

So what happens now? Will she put a price on her head or refuse to go anywhere other than Norf? She was keen to go to a Sydney team in her draft year.
It was said during the Coverage that Weston- Turner won’t be returning to the club if the trade didn’t get done

She'll get to North, we're definitely not taking her back. It's obvious there is a lot of friction between Weston-Turner and the club and I'm sure the full story will come out one day, but I've since heard that if a deal could not be reached, we would not be "welcoming" her back.
The picks North were offering we all but pointless in the context of the draft to us, so we chose to take a moral stance. I know some will say that we haven't played her and she hasn't lived up to that hype and we might as well get what we can, but I have to disagree. Given just how low the picks offered were, I think it's a far better look to not roll over.

She's reportedly refusing to do medicals with any other clubs and she has told Brisbane she's not willing to move interstate so she's obviously forcing it to be North Melbourne only.
Her manager basically said that Weston-Turner didn’t want to move interstate and that she will get to North Melbourne.

It's been slowly creeping into both the men's and women's programs. It's ridiculous that a player can just demand to go to one club and essentially force the original club to accept a lesser offer or get nothing and delist. There absolutely needs to be tighter rules around this, and I think we made our thoughts on this matter very clear today, by not accepting their horrendous offer.

Forget the fact she was the number one pick. Everyone at the time agreed that was a mistake and she wasn't rated number one by any other Club, and apparently plenty of clubs didn't think she was worthy of a first round pick.
She does not have any bargaining power. NM only value her as Pick 37 in a weak draft which shows her true worth. They weren't prepared to better their deal because quite frankly they know she isn't worthy of a first round selection.
Why does her management think she will just walk to NM? How arrogant to refuse medicals and refuse to move interstate. Her attitude absolutely stinks and the sooner we get rid of her, the better for our culture.
Good riddance to her.
