She isn't a #1 pick though, it's just a label - the best players in her year were already tied to other clubs by the state-based draft, she hadn't played much in her top age year with injury I think, the Dogs basically picked a dud in retrospect (for #1 - if she went 10 spots lower then no one would bat an eye I'd say).

Good on the Dogs for holding strong, but in the end it's all moot if as said above she's played her cards and said she isn't doing any medicals or going anywhere else other than North.

The AFLW needs to stamp this out once the game goes fully professional, and clubs need to push players and pick them if they're good enough - I know it's unlikely to happen as no club wants to risk picking a player who they think isn't going to buy in fully...but one can hope. Just end up chalking it up to 'that's life'...

It seems to be happening a lot to our club lately, in both the men’s and the women’s programs.

Norf owed us for getting Kearney for free, but I guess they have forgotten all that.

You owe us for us paying overs for a garden gnome in Caleb daniel

Would’ve thought pick 37 and a future 3rd better than nothing

We even tried bundling up 3 future 3rds for clubs with a f2 but you could’ve just taken them and dealt with them next year

AFAIK we only have two list spots, so 37 would have been passed anyway. The offer was essentially useless to us so no reason to accept it.
Haven't seen anything about her since her draft, as a AFLW watcher would you say she has a similar attitude to those who have recently left the men's program?

Is KLWT and her management delusional?

Forget the fact she was the number one pick. Everyone at the time agreed that was a mistake and she wasn't rated number one by any other Club, and apparently plenty of clubs didn't think she was worthy of a first round pick.

She does not have any bargaining power. NM only value her as Pick 37 in a weak draft which shows her true worth. They weren't prepared to better their deal because quite frankly they know she isn't worthy of a first round selection.

Why does her management think she will just walk to NM? How arrogant to refuse medicals and refuse to move interstate. Her attitude absolutely stinks and the sooner we get rid of her, the better for our culture.

Good riddance to her.

This was actually the most disappointing aspect to me. I went to every one of our AFLW games in VIC this year, and she was barely visible. Post-match, when all the non-playing members of the squad were mingling with fans or doing laps, Weston-Turner was either nowhere to be seen or was on the way out of the ground.

Okay she might not be that sociable, but to me there was always a hint of entitlement, maybe the #1 pick got to her, who knows, but certainly of late, her arrogance has been off the charts.

Correct, we were always only gonna use just the 2 draft picks (assuming the Cann deal went through), we have 8 and 44. The difference in quality of players in the 35-45 range is negligible, so there was no reason to bow down for the sake of it.

Something wasn't quite right from the start. I don't have any insider knowledge, so this is all with a grain of salt, but she didn't seem to really vibe with the club from early on. She's a Bulldogs girl from way back, but maybe she doesn't get along with Hyett, or she expects to get by on talent, or something's happened that makes her incompatible with the club as it is.

Blackburn said something during the year that really suggested she wasn't training at a standard that demanded a spot in the side.

Both Hyett and Berry when asked during the year went with the "continue to train hard" angle, while Blackburn on SEN a month or two ago said...

"I mean, yeah, with Westo, obviously it was a bit of a tough run for her this year. I think the start of the season she had some injuries sort of pop up for her, and then in the end, I think it became a bit more of a selection point of view.

I think the club is sort of working with her in terms of her role and the capacity there. So I'm not too sure, I can't speak on sort of what that feedback was in terms of what was going on there with Westo. But yeah, hopefully we can see more of her in the years to come and as she finds a bit more form in training sessions and then continuing that on into games."

For whatever reason, it's clear that she wasn't going at 100%.

Tells you a lot doesn’t it
To someone with no idea what goes on in the AFLW world it seems to me like someone who got drafted higher then expected and buys their own hype and begins to drink their own bath water. Seems a very entitled couple of years in the system, expecting to be handed games when in reality that shouldn't happen regardless on where the club is at in terms of ladder position or list build.

Said to my partner that follows North Melbourne if Weston- Turner struggled to get a game for us what makes her think that she can break into North’ side

Pardon the intrution but pick #37 was the opening offer and North even traded players to other clubs to get more picks with the hope of bundling three F3 picks together to offer to another club in the hope of getting a F2 as well as a F3 to get the deal across the line. Unfortunately no club was interested .l am hoping that a deal can still be done on draft night as l feel you should get something otherwise North will end up with KLWT and the Bulldogs will get nothing on draft night.

Why do you want her?

It wouldn't be practical for a multitude of reasons but I would love a rule brought in specifically around trading out of contract players to put some power back in the hands of clubs. If a deal can not be struck during Trade period between the two sides that player should then have to enter the open draft but be ineligible to be selected by either current club or target club, with the only way around this being to sit out a year.
Similar to my proposed change for contracted players in that they can nominate a state and a price but not a specific club.
