Absolutely love the way Sammy relates to the players. FWIW Sam played his junior footy for my junior club the Mitcham Tigers but I never actually met him as I am 4 years older than him and my family relocated to NSW in 1988 which is why we never crossed paths.

I could've sworn that the last time I spoke to him he said that he came through the Mitcham Tigers after I left for NSW. Apparently Sam did a guest speaking gig at some point which is maybe where the miss communication came from.

Yeah Mooroolbark boy - was in my younger brothers year level at high school .

I was helping out my home/junior cricket club one game and gave Sam out LB , copped a glare and a 'F off' as departed
Luckily for us he is a way better footballer/coach then batter - was cleaning middle peg halfway up and he tried to swip across the line

I remember one of these bold predictions articles from a year or so ago that had us playing Carlton of all clubs in the GF. And losing! That said…

If Day and Newcombe are fit and firing for the games that matter, we are some chance for the flag. Overall though I can’t quite see us matching the midfield power and depth of the Queensland clubs.

For this reason, I was devastated when we couldn’t land Merrett. But then pleasantly surprised with our draft haul, got a feeling at least 2 of them will go on to become very good AFL players. Plus there’s the realisation that missing Merrett means we’re better placed for a big fish next offseason.

So while, I feel 26 won’t be our year, I’m more optimistic than I otherwise would’ve been about the 3-4 years that will follow it.
