Probably far less.

Doubtful.

People have always been murdered. Many of them with knives.

Reporting is far more emotive these days, searching for the next clickbait headline to trick people in to thinking something is an EPIDEMIC regardless or whether it is or not.

I’m lost for words reading the below just now. 😢

Those of you familiar with the Bondi (Beach) Pavillion building will know how close that is to the barbaric massacre on Sunday.

‘Bar mitzvah turns to terror as 100 children hide from Bondi gunmen’

A terrible experience, another happy occasion ruined. But so lucky no one there was hurt.

Looking back, Ms Vanunu said it is confronting to think about how close they all came to death.

She believes if the gunman had known there was a bar mitzvah being held metres away from them, they would have entered the pavilion and started shooting.

There’s no doubt this is true.

You're talking about adults.

I'm quite clearly referencing young people.

Like every time I make the distinction to reference young people because what is happening in that regard was most definitely not happening 20-30 years ago.

So the murder rate has halved since 2000, and knife crime hasn't increased, but the rate of young people being murdered by knives is higher than 25 years ago is your contention?

It's certainly a claim you're entitled to make, but I suspect you're a victim of the bolded:

Of course anyone being murdered is bad, and it should be an ongoing goal to make changes to laws to help reduce that as much as possible.

It seems the gunmen targeted the Chanukah by the Sea festival. But never got close to it. Why stay on the bridge where they were exposed to being shot, and with trees in the line of sight to their targets?

My cousins' kid was stabbed to death by one of these scum ****s in 2020 so I think I know a bit about the subject.

The campaigner that stabbed him to death was charged with attempted murder 7 months later after the campaigner was released from detention.

A 14 y/o POS campaigner who already had a crim record as long as your arm.

Anyone who suggests this kind of thing was happening 20-30 years ago on this scale is full of shit.

It makes me laugh when anti-capitalists splutter their rage via their iPhones, drive off in a huff in their SUVs, to their comfortable homes with every modern appliance, invite their group-thinking friends over for another gripe while they sip their fine red from the Barossa, in between moaning that capitalism is oppression, and as for Gina :devil::devil::devil::devil:

Give it all up, live as you'd like everyone else to live and I might believe you. Fat chance.
Right on and don't forget they have avocado on their toast!

Old mate left the bridge and tried to get there but got blindsided and disarmed

The bridge was an elevated position, with some cover, that could only be rushed from 2 narrow opposite directions, with those loud guns as a significant deterrent

With respect, further to my deleted post, several men have been arrested by counter-terrorist police in western Sydney. Allegedly they travelled from Melbourne and were allegedly intending to go Bondi.

If “off topic”, please move to appropriate thread.

Thanks.

Excellent from the police!

Cheap from Frydenberg. Cheap nasty grandstanding whilst the Jewish community is mourning. An absolute Liberal stunt to politicise and weaponise this incident against Albanese and Labor. Absolutely piss poor from a person that should be genuinely mourning.

Did he have the same things to say about Howard after Port Arthur?

Take your crocodile tears and **** off.
I doubt that you are Jewish, neither am I, but to write that about Josh Frydenberg who is part of a community that was able to be comfortable in Australia for decades and decades without the threats of violence and actual violence on a scale that is normal and has been for a long time in some European countries and others elsewhere is plain wrong.

Since Hamas bravely slaughtered not only IDF members at a dance party but abducted and sexually assaulted them and Jewish villagers, some of whom had transported Palestinians to Israeli medical facilities among other actions of reconcilation and humanity in early October 2023, Jewish people like Josh have been compelled to live a life surrounded by security including for their children simply by existing as identifiable Jewish people in Australia.

He is living this and has every right to share that experience and condemn the weasling around that our PM and some of his cabinet have been doing instead of stepping up like Chris Minns did without being shamed into it.

I know a fair few Jewish people of different political affiliations and they all have backed Josh. Albanese showed me just how motivated he is by his ego and how out of touch he is when he snapped that Anti Semitism existed before 2022 ~ I think he said that instead of 2023.

Yes it did, in the form of the moronic National Action if anybody remembers them with their stiff armed fascist salutes and threatening phone calls to people from the left and right who publicly opposed them.

In colonial days and post Federalism, Anti Semitism was usually expressed in words yet Melbourne even then had a distinctive Jewish community, some prominent in business and later involvement with the Melbourne Football Club and societal institutions.

Many Australians lost their lives in the 2nd World War to fight against Fascism from both the west and east and post WW2 Jewish refugees were re-settled in just about every Australian state.

For Albo to slide away from the fact that Anti Semitism has become incredibly vicious in a very short span of years just disgusted many of us.
This is cowardly and evasive behavior that would not have come from Bill Shorten if he were our PM.

Yes, the rise of the neo fascist right is appalling but outlawing Nazi salutes and kicking out racists back to where they came from, correct as those kinds of actions are, have been emphasised over acknowledging that there are those in Australia who come from countries where Anti Semitism is invariably locked in with religious extremism and fuelling identities where hatred of Jews becomes inseparable from hatred of Israel.

Amid marches advocating for a solution to the Gaza-West Bank/Israel ongoing conflicts and wars, those voices of hatred surfaced and were not checked.

The chants of death to Jews and Israel, the ISIS flag on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and those flying it along with portraits of Islamic theocrats who imprison girls and women for not covering up (only one example of their oppressive rule), had no repercussions for the extremists who learnt that in this country they can get away with imposing their own `norms`of incitement and threatened/actual violence.

It`s not simply from the Israel/Palestine issue - perhaps people need a memory check of people carrying posters calling for beheadings of people in Australia and everywhere who don`t follow extremist religious ideology and want to exercise their free speech. That was more than 10 years ago.

And I don`t need to go into any details of the increasing normalisation of threats to Jewish people - and to Australians who don`t believe in extremist ideologies - that has ended us up here with a terrorist massacre of people in our country because they are Jewish.

Albanese has been dragged into making this more than about gun laws because of the courage of Labor leaders like Chris Minns who are willing to own mistakes.

The fact that Albanese has had to be pushed to do it says little about his concern for what has been going on for some time now and more about political foci such as voting demographics. This has been a shameful display by the PM and some of his cabinet and no amount of deflecting is going to take away from that. Zero respect for this kind of evasive, dishonest politicking.

I think its worse for him to not show up to any of the funerals than it would be to turn up uninvited.

He’s between a rock and a hard place. Not sure how he’s going to recover from this. It might be the Christmas break coming up but nobody is going to forget. The anger is likely to grow.

Police in camo gear and machine guns rammed a Hyundai hatchback in Liverpool with a Landcruiser. Handcuffed them with zip ties. Some of the men appeared to be injured and bleeding. Another car was stopped and seven men are being interviewed by police.

“At this point in time, police have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack.”

Post of the year, if not decade.
Brilliantly summed up and articulated and right on the money.

Morrison for all his faults at least showed up at the bushfires knowing he was going to cop a belting.. this guy won’t even go near Bondi when there is people there
Morrison hid in a chopper like a baby

There is no doubt Freidenberg is using this tragedy to further his political comeback. They words he used to attack Albanese were a disgrace .
If the fault lays anywhere it's with ASIO. Picking up intel on a 2 person sleeper cell living together is near impossible.
i'm no fan of Albanese but to suggest he should take personal blame and that his hands are covered in blood is an outrageous observation that only extremists like Neyanyahu are making.
The so called increase in anti-semitism is a direct result of the genocide in Gaza purpertrated by Netanyahu and his extremist cabinet.
Two ISIS nuts are not representative of the other 20 million Australians who can differentiate between Jewish culture and a genocidal leader.

Bravo

The below speaks for itself (assuming it is correct).

'Bondi gunman Sajid Akram bought three identical shotguns over the past 18 months, the most recent in September this year, giving authorities a clue about when the terror plot was hatched.

Sources have told The Australian that Akram bought the 10-shot “straight pull” shotguns on June 27 and August 27, 2024, and on September 5 this year.'
