I've just watched the highlights of Showdown 51 from 2022 on FOX, the Dawson goal after the siren victory, and was interested in how our team has changed since then:

No longer on our list are:
Frampton (given a bath by Marshall, but who won a Premiership in 2023)
Brown
Smith
Doedee

The entire half forward line:
McHenry
Himmelberg
Rowe

And:
Gollant
Murphy
Crouch
Schoenberg

That's 11 players of the 23 named

In the Showdown 51 team but currently not guaranteed a spot in our 23 are:
Butts
Jones
Hinge
Cook
Sholl
Pedlar

So the only six players in that game who make our current 23 are

Dawson
Laird
BoB
Rachele
Fogarty
Keays

I'm not looking to have any of those players who have gone back but some of them, Schoenberg, Himmelberg and even McHenry in particular, looked like 200 game players in the highlights.

It just reminded me how a club or a player's fortunes can change in a hurry and how better placed we look now to compete over a full season, not just a one off match, with the addition since 2022 of:
Rankine
Michalanney
Keane
Bond
ANB
Achee
Cumming
Peatlng
Curtin
Draper

Added to those who were already on the list but missed the Showdown:

Soligo
Thilthorpe
Worrell
Walker
Berry
Taylor
Milera

This will not age well at all.

Peaked at 21 has he?

He’s on track to play 300 games and go down as one of the best defenders of his generation - capable of completely blanketing opponents both tall and small despite his light frame, exceptional reading of the play and of the ball in flight, midfield craft outstanding and rebounding ability like a knife slicing through butter. Courage, determination and grit - outstanding leadership qualities.

Really poor take.
I'm thinking Carlton's SOS - can play forward or back like dad

Thanks - great take on the Crow Evolution. I believe the team will take a big step forward this year.

No lifeline for Elijah Hollands at Carlton with the Age reporting he's been cut this afternoon.
Nah it was talking about when they cut him initially. Article was mainly about the club consulting the players before inviting him back for the summer to try for that last list spot. (Unless it was a different article to the one released by Niall this arvo)

Track watchers reporting that so far he's pretty much been the standout alongside Walsh at training. Came 2nd in the time trial and blitzing the repeat efforts stuff.

But still a long way to go, talents never been his issue. No decision on him until Feb according to the 'ITK' crowd on our board.

Really? According to AFL site, he's been inked in to continue after Christmas.
I saw it on it my Facebook feed this arvo but I don't have a subscription to the Age so couldn't read the article.

Long time, first timer here
Cant believe that most pundits on here have berry outside their 23, hes got balance poise and is tough. Hes 180cm 80kg forced to play on the bigger bodied newcombe hurt. Hes a rover like Sloane that plays above hes height and weight but hes not a big bull.

Im surprised we didnt offer George stevens a 3 year deal, brownlow votes in hes first game shows he can play and could have been the big bull in the middle.

I think after finals, we need to see Dawson move at times to half back or a wing, yes hes our best mid but I think he was caught trying to be the inside mid too much in finals where we need hes outside delivery, poise and decision making.

I like ah chee but do we need him, when we have nibbles already there, playing a very similar role? I would have loved to throw that money at a Darcy Wilson who has upside and we can offer midfield minutes too and he hits the scoreboard.

I like Maley, i was surprised north didnt use him enough last year and used the old man darling as second ruck made no sense. He can take a contested grab and although raw theres something there. Id personally play him in all away games and rest tex. Id only play tex home games plus games at the g, and keep him fresh for finals. Id rather have him fresh in September than killing it in march and been spent by September. And maley can add a new dimension in the ruck.

We didnt see enough out of Draper ladt year, im expecting big things in 26, he has to be the one that breaks the game open with agility and be the one that breaks out of stoppages.

Would have loved to have seen us grab a backup ruck to keep Rob on hes toes. Ned Moyle should have been targeted.

2026 expectations are top 4, strong fwd and back line, great wing combo with curtain adding a different dimension and I expect another big step up again.

Mids and ruck need to improve 10% on last year. Draper, soligo, Berry is where the growth has to come from

Ah a O&M GVFL man

Has Lachie Neales off field issues opened the door ajar for the Crows to chase him as a FA? Same age age Petracca, he looks like he has a couple of years left and SA is his home state and would cost us nothing really. While its 99.9% unlikely as I think his wife and kids have moved back to WA, could still be worth asking the question.

Probably not as youd think the WA clubs will offer him a decent amount.
