Avoided the worst series defeat in Ashes history! Moral win baby
Proof they are the best team in the last ten years, and we are the worst. I mean, only beating them 3 - 0 so far? A better team would be further ahead.

Will be interesting to see if they look to the future, though. Inglis is nearly a decade younger than Khawaja plus is next in line as keeper, which counts in his favour going forward.

I’m more interested in whether Khawaja is going to retire or if he thinks he is a chance of going on past this series

We’ve all sort of assumed that he will retire but don’t think I’ve seen anything come from his mouth

Inglis will be replaced, don’t think he did enough to warrant staying in. The fact that he came in as a specialist bat and then batted below Green and Carey sort of suggested where he is seen in the setup. I feel he is a bit unlucky that he didn’t get the chance to bat at 5 and be given that role to prove himself

It's entirely reasonable for Morgan to feel like he would not be endangered

His own ego put him in that situation.

He went on a rant on twitter in 2014 when England were 3-0 down saying the English batsmen lacked courage and criticising their performance in general. Brett tweeted "Do you think you could do better?". When Piers responded in a way no one expected, Lee offered to give him one over in the nets as a joke expecting him to finally back down. Piers ego wouldn't let him relent and the rest is history.

I will give him credit though. Although he failed to perform better than the English batsmen he certainly outdid them in the courage stakes. 3rd ball fractured his rib and he shrugged it off. 4th ball hit the same rib and he still carried on. Can't fault courage like that.

Perhaps but he isn't scoring and looks awful and this was on just about the best pitch in the world to bat on. I hate saying it but I'd prefer UK still. Inglis has plenty of time and can get back in if he deserves it.

Not test quality. Getting out th same way over and over is a red flag.

He might have it but when he plays shield he needs to be scoring big tons not pretty 60’s. Does he have it maybe or is he that no8 “second spinner” in Asia that’s a horses for courses. We will see but he’s nowhere near it this year yet
We bring Cooper in if we want to show England Bazball is possible and works.

Plus, in the context of the series, with all our injuries mounting up, we just stumbled over the line. The gap between the teams isn't as big as the 3-0 scoreline suggests.

They couldn’t beat us minus half our attack for half the series

perhaps by chance, a slight changing of the guard is upon us.

the gap between the teams may not be big, other than the scoreline, but it goes to show Australia will be ok after Hazlewood, Cummins, Lyon, Khawaja, Smith who have all missed part of this series.

It's always about the bowlers and ours are old. Who knows what will come through post Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins, Boland and Lyon.

Okay. So Ben Stokes > Jesus Christ?

Haha! What even is this pablum?! It reads right from the mouth of some ponytailed tosspot with an MBA who is tapping into that creative writing elective undertaken, whilst attempting to rally the “resources”, with their remaining orifices caked with coke.

Empty, Facebook template dross.

As my mother might say, self-recommendation is no recommendation. Whilst in the practice of reverting to cliches, if history is indeed written by those whom “win” it, then I figure few will remember this strategy as belonging to some renaissance, be it in the greater sense for mankind, as various stuffy, beige adorned Anglia sorts would have it, nor in the cricketing domain.

Heck, I think the Sri Lankan template in the early 90s ODI game, of shifting Tillerkeratne to the top of the order and hitting out against the zone restrictions, with a sustained level of aggression that had not been witnessed previously, was the shift that the Brits could only hope that Bazball could have been, in the way that it influenced the play of teams around them and delivered success. Importantly, though, this philosophy knew when to attack and when to retreat…

Yes, we have been lucky enough to watch England play, Ben. So, so lucky.

Why didn’t Murphy cash in then?
I'm not exactly sure Murphy's the type of spinner that's effective on Asian decks though, you try to rip the ball to get maximum value out of turning decks. Murphy's value is in subtleties, varying his pace, turn and grip on the ball that's very hard to pick out, he bowls an old-fashioned arm ball and varies his pace with zero discernible view on his action. To me, more valuable outside Asia.

I think Kuhnemann gets the nod for no other reason that the England lineup is very right-hander heavy though - if Bethell plays a different discussion though.

You can only play who's in front of you. If they'd won, the fact that we were missing players wouldn't matter.

It also means the gap is WIDER than we thought

If you can’t beat a depleted side you aren’t that good

I tried to work it out myself, couldn't. Anyone care to come up with a possible explaination?? Boland looked good before the lunch break.

Not sure I get it

I remember game 3 of the English Ashes where they were chasing and we couldn’t get Murphy on because they’d eaten up too much of the deficit and it was too risky to bowl him with so few runs to win and we had to keep going with the tired front liners

I suspect knowing there would be no Lyon that they didn’t want to wear out the top liners together and then have to bowl Head when there is only 70 to get

Even then surely Green would be preferred and they surely didnt need everyone out to just gift singles. Maybe a part of it was just to test the ego and see if they were willing to do something stupid to try and get 20 quick runs off Head

Don’t know, wouldn’t have been my plan but they’re the only things I think could come into play. Don’t think anyone thought it was wise
