So Cummins has basically ruled himself out of boxing day.

I feel like the plan was always for him to not play back to back Tests

Thought there may have been a chance that Boland got rested for this game so that he’d be fresh for Melbourne knowing Pat probably wouldn’t be but if they think Scotty was right to get through all five Tests he has earned the right

His body is cooked may as well preserve what he has left.

Before this series his last test was 7 months ago in the West Indies when he delivered 6/9. Since then he's put in a career best haul and performed well with the bat. If he performs that well while "his body is cooked" then he's obviously gotten very good at dealing with the constant niggles and pain he has put up with his entire career.

He stepped away from T20 to focus on Tests - this Ashes specifically and then touring England and India in 2027 all going well. I would hate to see him dropped/rested unless he wants and needs a rest.

Doggett or Nesser?

I think Neser is comfortably better but Doggett was in front at the start of the series and the selectors might still see it that way

Plus with the series done and dusted, not the craziest idea to give another chance to the guy five years younger

I must admit to being a tad relieved by the result today. Yes, 82 runs is a comfortable margin, but at one stage they had Jacks and Carse at the crease, batting well and needing less than 100 to win. Archer and tongue looked reasonable tailenders and I thought there may have been enough batting to endure. Added to this the fitness doubts over some of the bowlers.

After the way Archer batted in the 1st innings, I couldn't believe his shot to get out. Anyway, good win to the Aussies, always nice to win the Ashes. It will be interesting for me if the English players temper their approach and abandon Bazball. Each time in this series when they have put the head down and worked hard, they've look pretty good.

Let's go with a Vic based bowling attack - bring in Murphy and O'Neill 😎

If he didnt know facing Brett Lee in the nets with zero ability wasn't dangerous the campaigner deserved to get hurt
It's entirely reasonable for Morgan to feel like he would not be endangered if he was facing legal deliveries though

Doubt they drop Green, he seems to be locked in

Yea I want him out but it's not happening. Not yet anyway but he'd want to make a score. Wethers and Marn too. Inglis suddenly in trouble after UK's contributions with Smith hopefully back. He's offered/done absolutely nothing. Murphy in for Lyon.

Starc and Cummins to play unless they're legit injured. They've been short tests til this one and they've had long breaks. They don't need a rest and if they get injured that's just how it goes.

No it doesn’t. Look Cooper has been okay in Shield but that’s it this year. Needs a year at least he’s in the mix but in 12 months not now same with Konstas

Well they need to start assessing Connolly in Tests and if Shield cricket were the basis for selection than Rocchiccioli should be Lyon's replacement - not Murphy.

I think Piers is an enthusiastic cricket supporter who has never really played the game at a decent level, and it looks one helluva lot easier on the TV.

I agree would play Rocc over Murphy.

Connolly needs to do it at Shield level (and for a full season), BBL form means squat

Will be interesting to see if they look to the future, though. Inglis is nearly a decade younger than Khawaja plus is next in line as keeper, which counts in his favour going forward.

Plus, in the context of the series, with all our injuries mounting up, we just stumbled over the line. The gap between the teams isn't as big as the 3-0 scoreline suggests.

This has been a massive moral victory for the spirit of cricket. You could see the celebration in the faces of the barmy army. Genuine tears, must have been so joyful, to be able to bring tears to those faces.

Perhaps but he isn't scoring and looks awful and this was on just about the best pitch in the world to bat on. I hate saying it but I'd prefer UK still. Inglis has plenty of time and can get back in if he deserves it.

Not sure Connolly will get many chances to do it at Shield level. Looks to be and should be a constant in the limited overs setup

He has it though and will get chances at some point. He won’t be one that needs to dominate Shield cricket for a period of time to get a chance

Avoided the worst series defeat in Ashes history! Moral win baby

Was hearing on the ABC, plus from Cummins himself, that they may save for for tours after this series. He didn't say for sure but alluded to the possibility. Meaning Richardson will come in for him next Test. Kuhnemann probably for Lyon, may be Murphy. Hopefully Webster for Green, surely that's a must. I'd have Renshaw for Marnus too but won't happen. Marnus was terrible on such a flat wicket. Smith for Inglis of course.

One thing we found, don't give your wicket away easily. Even Head's brilliant 170 but you never know giving your wicket away if it starts a collapse. We lost 6/38, missed a 500 lead and gave ourselves a fright.
What fright? We won by over 80 runs

He might have it but when he plays shield he needs to be scoring big tons not pretty 60’s. Does he have it maybe or is he that no8 “second spinner” in Asia that’s a horses for courses. We will see but he’s nowhere near it this year yet
