Can't ignore Renshaw.
I agree he's in form - I just think you don't mess with Weatherald right now. He's comfortable with Head partnering him, he's not making amazing scores but he's mostly sticking around long enough to not torch Marnus/Smudge like we've had in the past couple years. We should keep at him for the series, hope he gains the confidence and can become a permanent fixture.

If we really wanted to play Renshaw there's no reason we couldn't include him down the order for an easy entry - why we don't do that anymore is beyond me, it was a regular part of our 90s/early 00s success.

Based off what? His test record says otherwise, especially in Australia

Has already scored a ton at that level for starters. They have rightly gone back to the better talent

And it took him a long ass time and a flat ass Indian pitch to get that first one.

plenty of talented players haven’t cut it at the top level, he can go back and prove he is more talented.

He has two, one in NZ was a MOTM knock. If it was that flat in India everyone would have scored them. He already has proven he's more talented at Shield level an average of 50 says that and a 90 plus score this year unlike the alternative.

They are not dropping him when we are 3-0 up.

We are 3-0 up in-spite of him not because of him.

And yea that no innings was fantastic, he’s also played over 30 test matches which is far too many to be putting any weight in to one innings

Also I’m sorry but if you think that India pitch was anything but a highway you clearly forgot about that test.

He was given a chance and failed, Webster without a doubt deserves another shot over him.

We've done it too in the past.

Wayne Phillips springs to mind immediately.
Yeah, to be fair though he was in the side already and really only got the gloves when Rodney retired.

He'd made a pretty good start to his career as a batsman too by that point.

We didn't have to wait long for a good keeper after Flipper got the chop. Although they did try a couple.

In those first 2/3 seasons he was in the test side there were some decent keepers in the shield but I can see why they did it.

Webster might want to score runs in Shield this season and before you say oh they were green pitches it didn't stop Carey making runs. Was given a chance for Aus A and McSweeney made 200 plus, he only made 40 odd. It's clear as day regardless of batting which hasn't been great that Green is more likely at test level to get wickets. They want the bowling which will be even more crucial now Lyon is out. Webster is fine but he's backup to Green, that is unless they go as I expect them to- him in for Lyon and playing as the so called spinner/all rounder. I'd rather go the specialist but I expect them to go the safe way.

Turning a potentially generational player into an ordinary batsmen and even worse keeper wasn't the selector's finest hour.

It’s a 2 or 3 game sample size, it’s silly to take any major takeaways from such a small sample size.

Unlike the 30 plus test sample size that shows Green is not significantly more likely to make runs.

And if you want to talk about ‘form’ we can talk about how Webster had been in amazing form with the ball unlike Green who did nothing at shield level and been average with it at test level recently as well.

If you want to just lick off ‘perceived’ talent go ahead, but it almost never works

I agree he is in terrible form but bagging hiim for scoring a ton in India is poor form

That 2-3 sample size needed to be belting the door down not failing every innings. Green was the incumbent who only missed due to injury, that's the way this team has always been picked. Green was on bowling rations in Shield and still bowled well. He is a point of difference and it's why they will keep picking him. Webster needed to do what McSweeney did in the A game to force their hand, you may not like it but that's just reality. Green may be in average nick but still has a higher score this summer. They may play both anyway with Webster replacing Lyon and batting 8.

He wasn't much chop. Should have taken a thousand wickets, with the number of personal bunnies he had.
We were wandering how DRS would have worked out for Warne. It's really obvious now when they take the piss with a massive appeal and then refuse DRS and there's no denying that Warnie was intimidating, and would used his reputation to his advantage when he appealed.

It’s not bagging him at all, it’s adding context, it was a flat pitch.
You are quick to tell everyone that his hundred shouldn't count in regards to career because its "flat"

But you dont mention other times where greenie has scored runs in tough conditions such as in the west Indies batting at three out of position ...but if its webbie batting in tough conditions you are quick to tell us that

So yeah I think you are bagging out greenie because of your frustration for Webbie being out of the side

and I agree greenie is in terrible form and is not achieving what he should be but as Luke pointed out above Webbie is also not in fantastic form and hasn't really shown overwhelming performances this season to say "pick me" thats why webbie is currently out of the team.
