The umpiring this series has been absolutely shithouse
They might as well just **** then off and have red and green lights for decisions from the 3rd umpire with all the technology available. Only problem is who’s going to hold the bowlers hat? About the only thing the campaigners accomplish with no **** ups.

Marnus has to go, has completely lost it. Last 3 years, his averages are 35, 31 and 21. That encompasses 30 tests and 57 innings.
He did go. Then he came back.

Everyone went you know what after he hit a few Shield runs. The bloke has been cooked for 3 seasons

Shame none of the questionable guys have been able to make a proper mark on this tour

Went into this series with faith in Head, Smith and Carey and no one else. I know the next series isn’t for 8 months time but it’s looking like they will be the only three you can definitely lock in there. Would’ve been nice if we saw the Marnus of old or Weatherald proved to be a find

I really don't see McSweeney as top order. He's a 5 or 6. I know that's where he bats for SA, but not a top order Test player (at least for now) imo.
Presumably Renshaw for Wetherald. So, what, move Khawaja back up to open or three? McSweeney then at five, or even in for Green? Replacing Lab is the hard one, and probably not as vital. He has scored a couple of 50s at least; and we know in form he can do well.
I do I think mcsweeney is very good technically and is a top order player

Going forward I can see an order of

Renners
Konstas/kellaway
Mcsweeney
Smith whenever he retires
Head
Green

With Peake Connolly in the wings

The transition of usman marnus coming soon

Him edging to the slips was just waiting to happen.
Stoke nearly got him early on.

Honestly get McSweeney in there. I’m past Lab now.

Benefit of the doubt HAS to go to the batsman here.

Can anyone look at that third image with a straight face and conclusively say that ball isn't touching grass?

It's not conclusive.

I think it's more likely it was caught on the full than hit the ground.

It doesn't appear as though the ball bounced off the ground into Root's hands, it's more a question of whether there was simultaneous ground and hand contact as the ball first hits Root's hands
