No team has won a final the year after losing a Grand Final by 40 points or more since 1995.I suspect he made these statements to deflect criticism away from his players, he wouldn’t have been concerned that criticism would come his way. Geelong were pulverised in the Grand Final, their key players came up short when it really mattered. How will they deal with this in coming seasons, many will carry the mental scares.

I can't give you gladiator music, sadly.I want the full fox footy montage treatment for Harris soccering the ball on the wing, then tapping it, then falling over the boundary line oh so clumsily.
Quad call, gladiator music in the background please.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned elsewhere, but we've never lost a Grand Final with an Ashcroft playing. Marcus retired after 03, Will injured in 23. Unbeaten in the rest of them.
We have never won a premiership without a Starcevich involved either.Somewhat more worryingly, haven't won a senior men's premiership since ww2 without an Ashcroft.
The Fitzroy one was pretty good, got Wilmot, Gardiner, Bruce, Starce and Will but yeah I think it had been a long night. Tricky to schedule though as I assume a bunch of them have well-earned holidays coming up.

I too was in Q53. In the shade all day and a cracking view of the last quarter avalanche. Good times!View attachment 2437112
Anyone else in Q53?
Had basically the same view when I went to the Gabba this year for the Port Adelaide game. I’m chalking that up as a personal good omen.
I can't give you gladiator music, sadly.
I can give you Karl Langdon however.
Yes the master of the old accidentally-on-purpose out of bounds isn't heHarris Andrews is the master of 'controlled clumsy'.

It is an art formYes the master of the old accidentally-on-purpose out of bounds isn't he![]()
Lachie Neale was also the first ever sub in a Grand Final, in 2013 for Freo. Now there's your trivia question! With the demise of the sub, history will show the two last sub players being of a different class of footballer.
A certain trivia question in the future
Lions:
Lachie Neale - 293 AFL games, 21 in 2025. Lions co-captain. Dual Brownlow medal winner. B & F 3 times. MVP 1, Ayres 1, Premiership 1 (at that time)
Cats:
Jack Martin: 163 AFL games 12 in 2025.
There was indeed, but that only ever applied to the minor premier. So even if it existed today, Geelong still couldn't have used it!Haha yep I was just watching that, totally nuts but apparently there was a such a “credit” system in the early days of VFL that the loosing team could use to ask for a rematch.![]()
This guy has no shame

Far out, got it wrong.. errmm let me swing the other way now and call WAshcroft for $2 million dollar contract.
Good to see Sarah Olle pulling him up on the "playing Lachie Neale is the most reckless thing Brisbane Lions could do - don't do it" hot take before Grand final. Good on her.
I dont want to steal sleepylion thunder but the 2025 mini movie was uploaded to YouTube but it now seems to be blocked for copyright wtf, hopefully gets fixed so keen!
She said the afl have 48 hours from when it was posted, if they dont do anything it will be public then or she will upload it to a google doc, can’t waitOh no, hadn't seen it! sleepylion let us know if you are able to upload to a new link or private link for us to see!
I think the biggest difference between Ashcroft and the golden boy, in fact the difference between most of our mids and the mids of other clubs, is that our guys have had drilled into them the importance of defence. Of tackling. Of pressure. I don't know whether this has come from Fages, or Cam Bruce, or maybe it's simply Josh Dunkley rubbing off on everyone else.Still reading through the pages, but Fages effectively flagged the difference between WAshy and Naicos in his presser (in not so many words).
Both players are incredibly talented, but WAsh is tough.
He copped some flack for not doing the defensive running earlier in the season. I think he put that to bed in his finals performances.
Have they announced him as the winner of the Gary Ayers medal yet?
Looks like it's up and running! She said the afl have 48 hours from when it was posted, if they dont do anything it will be public then or she will upload it to a google doc, can’t wait
