If England win and it ends 3-2 which I'm predicting personally it'll be that what if thoughts spreading.. Australia do it as well.. Ashes the touring side should come couple months prior and play some lead up cricket against the state / county sides.

4-1 makes it a thrashing, 3-2 and that narrative can change into a few bad sessions cost England the Ashes, not quite a moral victory but they can go home with some positives which a loss in Sydney would rob them of.

2023 Ashes we were a ball change away from 3-1. Instead we got 2-2.

Every Test matters.

I hope they do put the series loss down to a bad session or two or bad luck

They’ll keep papering over cracks with that narrative.

Equally you could argue 4-1 might paper over a few of ours.

Especially with the WTC, there are no more "dead rubbers".

Very good chance he is having those conversations but he is not going to tell the public if he is having them.

Maybe they have been, though the attached article is still a little ambiguous about things

Usman Khawaja appears set to break his silence over his Test future as speculation mounts the batting great may announce his retirement before the Sydney Test.

There is no confirmation at this stage that Khawaja will talk on Friday, but there is a growing expectation he may address media before taking the field for Sunday’s New Year’s Test...

...It’s not certain Khawaja will retire.

At no point has he intimated he saw Sydney as his final stop.
