He's certainly still up to and replacing him will be near impossible but there are times I wonder whether his heart is still in it.
"I've said it for a while, I'm taking it day-by-day, series-by-series, and we'll see where things land. I feel like I'm doing alright at the moment, I'm enjoying it, I'm contributing and having fun. So there's no real end date for me".

He also says that he likes that other players have been contributing to our wins. A reference I believe to him keeping Aussie cricket alive and thriving during 2014-2018, then Ashes 2019. Must have been great pressure on him but you'd never know it the way be batted back then.

Problem with Junior, was it was tough to escape Tugga's shadow.
The problem with junior, in relation to Steve, was that he simply wasn't as good.

He was an over-rated batsman IMO, but that wasn't the sum total. You got the whole package with Junior. That was what he bought to the table and that's why he survived as long as he did.

Mark Waugh was a far superior batsman than Uzzy.
Uzzy is going to retire with a higher average having played a lot of his tests in a tougher role in more difficult batting conditions. He's been seriously underrated.

Smithy has given an emphatic "NO'' to his retiring after Sydney.
Dude wants to play in Olympics, thats in 2 and half YEARS away. He is a madman.

Played 40 more tests than Khawaja but only scored 1800 more runs, so what are you basing that on? Technique definitely, but other than that they're prob on equal footing in terms of careers
I am basing it on bowlers faced in the two different eras. Sure, Uzzy can retire with a very good average for an opening batsman.

Uzzy might be one of the last with all the traditional test match gears. He'll be best remembered for 2023 Ashes where he was a stone wall. But he was a beautiful stroke maker when that was needed.

Mark Waugh was also one of the best fielders to ever grace a cricket field.

Precisely the point I was making. And a serviceable bowler.

He sure wasn't there for his batting ability alone. He had pretty much the worst average in the side of the batsmen in that peak era.

This might be some radical thinking and pardon me if I cause offense, but

The test match should have started today.
Or Yesterday.

He really should have batted at 6.

Yeah dunno, I think he just went walkabout in the head too often. I doubt he would've been any better without the adult supervision of other batsmen.
He was just ahead of his time and had a mini tv in his helmet, showing the race that apparently takes precedent over doing your job most days.

Don’t hate the Sunday start this year. Least day 3 isn’t Orthodox XMas this time

Mark Waugh's FC average was actually higher than Steve's, and he crafted some of the best innings of the 90s (Kingston '95, Port Elizabeth '97).

He had a better Test career than Khawaja (played more Tests, could bowl and was a legendary slip fielder), but he was still a big disappointment given his ceiling. His Test batting average is less than Khawaja's (despite batting at #4), and he got a duck every 11 innings, compared to Khawaja's 15.7.

I can only conclude that the extra concentration required in Tests, compared to FC and even ODIs (where he excelled), did him in.
