Some interesting analysis on Green.

Oops I only meant to link the vid, not the but about Steve Waugh. Oh well

At the risk of stating the obvious, just because Steve Waugh did better in the second half of his career compared to the first half, doesn't mean Cameron Green will do something similar.

It's a good analysis, my thoughts:

  • Love that Will has found a place in the media, he sounded really mature in this piece, given I assume this is his first summer doing it. I just hope the bloke is happy after everything that's happened with him.
  • The Green vs Stokes comparison does nothing more than point out how mediocre Stokes generally is, rather than how great Green is. Stokes is great as a impact player - but I wonder how much of that is driven by him putting himself on when he smells a wicket. On the flip side, I've watched him grind out many bowling spells where **** all is happening to protect his mainline bowlers, so I'm probably being unfair.
  • Another one on Green vs Stokes, the fact that they are even remotely close in numbers speaks to the difference in standards between the Aussie and English in both fans and media. Take that for what you will.
  • Green plays a bit of a shit role at times being the bowler brought up to bump people. Not always effective as a strat, but he plays his role in the bowling lineup well.
  • I agree Green batted well in Melbourne, until he went out for stupid reasons. I know it was discussed in the video, but that is what infuriates and concerns many of us. As Will rightfully points out, he's still 26 - could be playing for 10-12 more years if his body allows it, so plenty of time to improve.
  • What that ignores is that opportunity cost - is constantly picking Green, over the older player who has proven themselves in Tests (ignoring Shield performance for a moment), really worth it? I'm very conscious that Cam may end up ****ing up to t20 franchise garbage if we don't carefully manage him, but he's shown that he loves Red Ball and wants to improve. Maybe giving Slug one bloody match this summer would be a reward for him as well, it's not always a punishment of another player.

so he better start making runs? isn't that just agreeing with what people are saying?

Final Word today about Uzzie was pretty well summed up by Bharat and Collo.

I thought it was well balanced and Bharat did a great job of linking it to his own journey. I'd rather not add any more context as I think it's important to listen to it in its entirety.

So what you’re essentially saying is that we need to give Green another 11 years in the test arena on the off chance that he becomes another Steve Waugh?

If Green possessed the self belief, grit and mental toughness that Steve Waugh always exhibited in spades, then he might be a chance of having a very good test career. But he doesn’t, and it’s doubtful that he ever will.

Steve Waugh was useless till 1989 when things finally clicked and he found some confidence, so in light of that i think the argument is valid in terms of needing to show patience with certain players.

Seriously so sick of losing cricket days to Rain in Sydney how many more before they change the damn schedule.

Brisbane Gabba 1st Test
Sydney SCG 2nd Test
Adelaide AO 3rd test
Melbourne MCG 4th test
Perth 5th test OS (teams half way home already)

What is their obsession with having the 5th / new year's test.

Most Rained out days at a group in the history of test cricket is the SCG so maybe change the time they have it.

Old Trafford test is ruined by rain every time they play there.

It works with the holidays here, on what planet is it working in December in Sydney? Unless you are open to it being a permanent D/N and that’s going to be a hard sell for members, I’d be okay with it not sure others would.

Smith definitely has players he doesn't rate.

You could tell last summer he had no time for Webster.

Then last test Richardson didn't get a go until the test was done really.
Smith is pretty astute.

Good to see Pucovski's concussions haven't impacted his judgment on who he needs to white knight for to get ahead in the Australian cricket media landscape.

He will go far.
